The Palatine
The highest hill overlooking the city, the palatine is home to the imperial palace. It is the richest and most secure quarter of the city,
Demographics
This quarter is made up of the rich, their servants and protectors, plus those whose services they need. A large number of noble families and wealthy merchants. Although predominantly imperial there are also a number of Beulanders and Rhanelanders, and even small numbers of Elves and dwarves, the latter being mainly merchants. The palatine is the locaion of many embassies, and thus a smattering of other races can be found here too.
Defences
The walls of this quarter are high, modern and well maintained. A river seperates it from the Esqualine save for a bridge which is well gaurded.
Industry & Trade
Little is made here and the goods that are sold are those of high value. Expensive robes amd material, jewels, gold and other prescious metals, rare spices and exotic foodstuffs. The markets here are more civilised and the shops very well presented.
Infrastructure
The imperial palace dominates the quarter, but it also houses the barracks of the preatorian gaurd, the temple of Glym, many foreign embassies, and the Domus Igeni where members of the Arcanum are trained and housed.
Guilds and Factions
Various noble houses seek favour with the emperor and wealthy merchants seek patronage or special charters.
History
The Palatine was constructed around 250 years ago, as the city grew and wealthy families sought to escape the increasingly crowded Capitoline. In time the rotal family itself moved to the top of Palatine hill, making the quarter much more secure and desirable.
Architecture
Grand and relatively modern.
