Cardenna
Cardenna is the imperial capital. Over 1000 years old, this was the first city to be conquered by Calgar Pagitax during the formation of the empire, and he made it its capital. Located on the south coast with a natural harbour, Cardenna has expanded over the years to cover the seven hills, each of which forms a major district.
Demographics
As the imperial capital the city is quite cosmopolitan. Around 65% of citizens are imperial by birth, with a further 10% Beulander and 10% Rhanelander. Around 5% are Aldrim, and 5% Elf or Dwarf, with the remainder miscellanous other races.
Government
The capital is under imperial law and the direct control of the imperial government. Tribunes speak for each of the districts in the city council.
Defences
There have been various walls around the city at different stages of its growth. Only the current Outer Wall is manned, but this does not encompass the entire city.
Industry & Trade
As well as being the most important port in the empire there is a weath of talent to be found among its citizens in terms of craft and artistry. Given that the wealthiest people in the Empire live in the capital, artists in particular can prosper here.
Infrastructure
The city benefits from some of the most advanced technology the empire has to offer. There are ancient sewers, a thriving port with shipyards and cranes for offloading heavy cargo, bath houses with heated water, private theatres and even a public library and museum.
History
Cardenna was founded over 1000 years ago, and much of its origins are lost. Imperial history began around 20BC when the city was conquered by Calgar Pagitax. Since then Cardenna has always been the seat of imperial power.
Architecture
Stone and marble make up most of the ancient buildings and any modern building of note. Middle class buildings tend to be made of wood and stone, while the buildings in the poorer quarters are made of wood alone.
Geography
Through slow and steady growth the city has expanded to cover seven hills, each of which is considered a district for the purposes of civil administration, plus the Fields of Mars, home to the military forces stationed in the capital, the harbour and the narrows.

Natural Resources
There is farmland around the city and in the hills the land is good for growing olives and grapes and grazing sheep. Further afield there are forests and mountains where the heavily worked iron mines still produce a reasonable yield.
