The Capitoline
The second oldest part of the city, the Capitoline is home to the senate, the old imperial palace, and the legendary Forum. Always a bustling hive of activity, this is where people come to trade ideas and opinions, and to try to shape the very laws that govern the empire.
Demographics
The capitoline is biased towards the middle and upper classes, and in particular tends to attract scholars and priests. Around 90% of the inhabitants are imperial, and the rest tend to be other human nationalities.
Defences
An old and crumbling wall runs round the quarter. The value of this wall as a defensive measure is debatable as many buildings have been built close to it on both sides over the centuries.
Industry & Trade
There is little industry in this part of the city, save for book binders, but plenty of legal advocates and a number of highly prized private schools.
Infrastructure
The oldest buildings in the quarter are the old palace (now a museum) the forum, and the more modern senate building. The ancient temple to Luna found in this quarter is the largest in the empire, and consists of a number of buildings and gardens. The temple to nemesis, located near the senate is likewise the largest in the empire and its extensive vaults hold the cities legal archives.
Guilds and Factions
The presence of the imperial senate in this quarter means that it is home to labyrinthine levels of plots and intrigue. Even attempting to count the ever shifting factions would be an exercise in futility.
History
The Capitoline is the second oldest part of the city, indeed its creation is arguably what made Cardenna a city, with the construction of the palace and the ancient forum, which served first as a regulated market for goods, but slowly evolved into a market for ideas and a place of debate. In time the forum was replaced by the new senate house and the palace replaced by a new one on the Palatine hill, the old palace being transformed intoa library and museum.
Architecture
The architecture is quite grand if old fashioned, a mass of weathered stone and marble with columns and lintels visible on almost every major building.
