Thinamy of Merthiorn

King Thinamy of Merthiorn

Thinamy was the spouse of Queen Onnamar of Merthiorn and father of Queen Tesel, the last queen of the Kingdom of Merthiorn.
They acted as the king of Merthiorn for the period between their wedding with Onnamar and her death, when the throne was taken by Tesel.

Physical Aspect

Thinamy was a male furry societarian of cacomistle phenotype, they were short and thin, with a comically oversized tail.
They had a coat of mostly pale brown-grey fur in the back and white in the front, with a face mask that was white in the lower jaw, nose area and around the eyes, and dark grey across the rest of the head.
Their tail was quite furry and ringed in evenly separated white and black rings. They had dark eyes.   Thinamy mostly had a reserved and shy stance when performing their throne activities, though they could change impressively when in character.

Life

Thinamy was a shifting societarian in a time when this uncommon gender identity was not fully understood and integrated in the Merthiornite society.
They were the first shifting person in a position of such power in the Kingdom of Merthiorn and this, added to their peculiar personality, made it a rocky road for them to be seen as a worthy monarch.

Marriage with Onnamar

For centuries, the Merthiornite Royal Family tried to deviate very little from their range of phenotypes when considering potential spouses, in order to maximise the chances of creating offspring, as it was against tradition to give the throne to adopted children.
For this reason, it was outrage on the throne when the queen, a wild dog woman, decided to marry a folk that was several families of phenotypes away from herself, even though for most people the reduced fertility would not have been much of a problem.
The Royal Family and many other government officials told the young queen that they would only allow their marriage to become official if and when they were able to produce offspring, which the couple would not delay, birthing their first child only a year after their union, and eventually four more.

Shenanigans

Thinamy had an intense passion for acting and impersonating characters of their own creation.   It was unclear if they actually had multiple personalities, but they were known to walk the streets of Spire in disguise, using clever tricks to hide their very noticeable tail sometimes and just going with the flow for some other characters.
They would make friends and acquaintances with the people their characters met - Some later declared to have never known about it, many said they eventually discovered their friend's identity, but most didn't want to change their relationship with them because of it.

The Children of Thinamy

Tesel

Of Thinamy's five children with Onnamar, Tesel is undoubtedly the most famous. She was the eldest female (Born in 2936 E.Alz) and, as per tradition, the heir to the throne who eventually became the queen after her mother's death in 2960 E.Alz.   Their other four children were, in order of birth: Velegrim (2938 E.Alz), Niruim and Mytse (twins, 2942 E.Alz) and Klindra (2946 E.Alz).   Of them, Velegrim became a captain of the guard in the City of Goldwaste, the bright Niruim acquired fame as the head of The Knowledgeholders, Klindra acted as a diplomat most of her life, whereas little is known of Mytse's endeavours or pursues in life.   Thinamy has been described by all their children as an incredibly loving parent and is tenderly remembered for playing with them using hand puppets and making entire puppet plays for them, of which some included characters that later turned out to be associated with some of the personas he would turn into when in disguise.

Death and Legacy

The most graceful king blessed us with an invaluable opportunity: to experience the accumulated love, resilience, intelligence and charisma of the many people that inhabited their soul.

Thinamy outlived their wife for many years and lived to be an old, beloved king.
After Onnamar's death, they became a trusted advisor and support for their daughter Tesel as she ruled the kingdom.   Thinamy's adventures as their many personas continued even as everyone in their family or in the capital discovered the ruse.
While a minority of enemies of the monarchy would describe Thinamy as an impostor and characterise them as a representation of the royal's trickery, most people saw Thinamy's personas as either harmless fun or as a core part of the king's identity.   Thinamy died of old age at an impressive 98 years old in 3013 E.Alz, just one year before The High Rust that would destroy their family and their kingdom.
Many people claimed that dying just before The Rust was a grace that destiny granted them: To only see their kingdom flourish and to never live the horror that came after.

Shifting Gender in Thaur

This section discusses topics of discrimination based on gender identity
Out of the four genders recognised in Merthiorn (now the Kingdom of Thaur) and most of the Haan Archipelago, shifting people are still the least common, and at the time were commonly frowned upon and characterised as attention seekers, unstable or full of themselves, and sometimes discouraged from forming families.   The popularity of King Thinamy made shifting people become normalised within the island and the effect could be seen even around the rest of the archipelago, where the thoughts on shifting folk have also improved substantially in the last century.   Monuments made in Thinamy's honour are often visited by older shifting folk who view them as an icon and a folk hero.
