Old Gate & Marsh Wall

Saltmarsh has grown in fits and spasms over its one hundred and eleven years, so much of the modern town is built over or around its previous iterations. One such example of this is the short stretch of crumbling, weather beaten tabby wall to the northwest. Known as the Marsh Wall, there is a single entrance here called Old Gate, that acts as a checkpoint between Saltmarsh and the Burle-Marsh Road.

Garrisoned by at least two members of the Scales day and night, it is a post most frequently given to older or injured guards. A posting here relies mostly on sharp eyes, quickly sizing up travelers, and a willingness to raise the alarm sooner rather than later. A boring but vital post, the Scales here are prone to gossip. A hard drink or a few silver pieces can often persuade them to provide information on recent visitors or goings on.
