Eliander Fireborn
Captain of Royal and Provincial Forces in Saltmarsh, Councilor Appointee (a.k.a. Ol' Fireball)
Overview
A distinguished Keoish veteran, Eliander is an imposing figure despite his age and the loss of a leg to an owlbear. A lifetime military man, he earned a name for himself in service of the Wild Flame Pact battling the horrors of the Dreadwood.
In the Dreadwood, Eliander made a favorable and lasting impression upon the then ranger lord Kimbertos Skotti, ultimately earning him his royal appointments.
Personality
Known to be a stubborn yet fair and just man, he is extremely cautious with his words and actions when calm. However, a lifetime spent in hostile places has left him with a tremendously aggressive temper. It is a rage that Eliander isn't above taking pride in.
By local standards, Fireborn is something of an intellectual oddity. He can read and write Common, Dwarvish, Elvish, Halfling, and Gnomish while also being able to speak and understand Draconic and Orc.
Beliefs
Eliander is loyal to the crown and its laws, believing that faithful service and iron discipline are the surest ways to maintain peace and order. While loathe to use a heavy hand in local affairs, his authority is expansive and backed by a royal writ.
An avid collector of rare books, a hobby he picked up in his soldiering days, Eliander has amassed a very interesting collection that spans subjects both great and small. Krag, his closest friend in Saltmarsh, lives with Eliander and helps to translate and maintain the expansive library.
Endeavors
With decades already spent in Salinmoor, Eliander is something of a Salt/Founder hybrid, making his royal appointments the least offensive of the lot. Yet there is no denying that Captain Fireborn is the very real and firm extension of Niole Dra's grasp.
Here to protect Keoish citizens and enforce Keoish laws, Fireborn has poured his efforts into reorganizing and bolstering local forces with improved training, increased personnel, and experienced veterans. While focused on providing Saltmarsh with strong defenses against creatures, bandits, and pirates, he has also thrown his newly polished martial capacity at straightening Saltmarsh out.
By going after illicit trade and local crime, Captain Fireborn is fast replacing frontier systems. Saltmarsh and its neighbors have been happily thriving without strict obedience to Keoish rules or laws for a long time, a privilege many feel was well paid for by suffering through decades of going without the protection or resources of the Crown.
