Surcount Hannu 'Trunk-Chest' of Sjolund

Surcount Hannu Laspura

Hannu Laspura is the Surcount of the Surcounty of Sjolund and comes from the house of Laspura which has been a prominent noble family within the region since before the time of King Altti "the Silver King". Hannu is widely regarded by the general populace as a fair and shrewd lord, much of his reign having been devoted to promoting cultural development and tradition within his Surcounty, including large investment into the neglected second-seats of Vilhma and Ratora.   Hannu is known as a very religious man, often attending services within the Cathedral of St. Lauri in Sjolund as well as upon the great mound north of the city, where the saint and supposed progenitor of his dynasty once proselytised the heathen ardic tribesmen. Due to this affinity with Saint Lauri, Hannu had been graced with Aakomet as his personal guardian god and is known to give generously to such denominational sects for the goddess.   Hannu served under Grand Duke Arttu I during the Doric-Aijian War wherein he was a key general of the Grand Duchy's army. Hannu gathered a large contingent of his own loyal bannermen from his Surcounty, a force which was largely formed of cavalry and men-at-arms. Meeting the main army convoy crossing the Tora River, Hannu and his army were among those that crossed at Wheatash Bridge after the official declaration of war against the Noble Republic of Aijia. Hannu was then present during the Battle of Ebben Field where Doric forces won an emphatic victory, before later being given orders to split from the main army and set-up a siege and blockade on the northern approach to Asjaer.   Hannu, as a well-known and respected noble of within Doria, has garnered much attention with his pious nature. Perhaps more so though, people have fixated on the gargantuan nature of the Surcount's household. As a highly wealthy individual, the Surcounts of Sjolund are thought to have been historically the third most wealthy individuals behind the Grand Duke and the Surcounts of Rydant. Hannu's household is occupied by over 400 members, serving a wide range of roles and comprising folk from each and every walk of life. Among the most prestigious roles are the varying Katturi (officers) of the household, the Surcount's chamber knights and sergeants of offices and arms. A number of clerks, valets of the chamber and valets of the stables also accompany the household and are generally of the noble class. A series of servants, including huntsmen, grooms, carters and cleaners are also present, largely of lower classes or minor noble houses. Finally, the Surcount's household is buffered by a litany of esquires, generally young gentlemen from the favoured houses of lower nobility within the lands north of the Tora River. Such a humongous household has been said to rival the numbers of the Grand Duke's household, sometimes even surpassing it.
