Runic Empire
The runic empire is the largest faction within the known extent of Tuono’s surface. They encompass the vast area of the eastern shores, stretching westwards to the boundaries of the Greater Bryn Valley and the central kingdoms.
The empire encompasses many different cultures, languages and ethnic groups, although much of the wealth and power is concentrated in the west and north. This is somewhat mitigated as the empire has two capitals, Ardrune in the west, and Makhtyla in the east. The eastern warlords and people’s often agitate for more control, preferring honour-based societal systems compared to the far more bureaucratic nature of the western regions. The people of the north, the Saaric peoples, inhabit the lake strewn forests of the north, said to be the original homeland of the Runic people as well before their migration westwards. The Saaralic people tend to more reclusive and involve themselves less in the politics and foreign policy of the greater Runic Empire, instead, being more insular and resistant to more centralised rule for the region.
The empire has fairly poor relations with its neighbours, those of the eastern isles preferring isolation avoid the empires delegates, the kingdom of Volnia takes hostile action against any travellers from the empire who cross the desert that separates them, and the central kingdoms fluctuate between distaste and outright dismay as the empire continues its long march of influence and intrigue against their courts. The duchy of the dales having been the latest victim of the empires expansionism has become a de facto colony.
