Noble Republic of Aijia
The Noble Republic of Aijia is a small state located on the Bryn River within the central kingdoms, largely centred around the great trading city of Asjaer. Historically, the city of Asjaer was a centre of trade that attracted merchants and nobles from all corners of Tuono's Corpse, especially from the Brynish cities of the north such as Brondholm and Rhorna. These settlers were unlike many of the surrounding people, many of whom still held to the tribal culture of the Alvarians. The region was largely decentralised and ruled by local tribal chiefs, with the exception of Talaan and Asjaer, the former being the seat of a tribal high chief, the latter being the distinct trade hub of foreign nobles and merchants. It would largely be under the first brynic confederation that these lands would begin to transition to a more feudal form of society, the lands around Asjaer changing more rapidly. Many more noble families would migrate to the area as well as local families rise up to stations of status and power, especially those in the western foothills of Vollun were many new mining settlements began to spring up. It would only be under imperialist ambition that the lands would be truly united, with the rise of the Brynic Empire, the lands of Asjear and the Alvarians of Talaan and the plains would be grouped together under the banner of the new Kingdom of Alvaria, yet another title to quell the ego of the Emperor. When the empire eventually fell, the lands of the Alvarian Kingdom began to fracture upon their old fault lines, however, the land of Aijia, the city of Asjaer and its surrounding settlements, were forever changed by the empire. Now fully transitioned into a feudal hierarchy, the new nobles would establish a new order and a new type of king that would be prohibited from having the lofty pretences of an emperor. The new Noble Republic of Ajia would now inhabit the lands east of the foothills of Vollun, curving around the Bryn river.
Structure
The Head of State of Aijia is an elected member of the nobility called the King-elect. Once elected, this individual will have a limited role in administrating their domain, their purview mostly being of a diplomatic and military function. The election of a new King-elect would occur every 5 years, the candidates coud be of any noble manor within the state. Voting was a complicated affair, each noble was afforded a vote however among each noble's estates divisons were made to split effective populations into boroughs of ~5000 people (though this varies greatly with population changes)where in each borough would have a local representative who also had a vote. This would mean the vote was heavily skewed in favour of nobles with large demenses unless coalitions formed. Laws would be introduced and debated by nobles in the palace Antemoire, a great hall with a glass ceiling, and then enforced by locally appointed Trekers.
