Pilkala
Pilkala is a heavily fortified royal palace and town located between the Yarrow and Orla rivers. The settlement is thought to have first been established as a border outpost by the old Caenan King, Puulitar, who had expanded his petty kingdom north and west of the Doric Mountains. At the time, Pilkala would have been little more than a small wooden fort upon a small hillside, however, the outpost became of greater importance as the borders of the Caenan Kingdom expanded to other parts of Doria and Pilkala was soon its own regional seat of power under the crown of Canyndor. The great stoneworks that serve as the outer walls of the fortress date back to the late 49th century, a time when Pilkala briefly served as the royal seat of a kingdom established by Ardic tribes encompassing the modern Surcounties of Ilkweir, Pilkala, Kilncross and the western half of Ingus. These steep walls of smooth granite look akin to manmade cliffsides and pose quite the daunting challenge for potential besiegers, despite this, this Ardic Kingdom was short-lived and Pilkala was quickly reincorporated into Dorian territory. The keep itself was later built by the famous King Altti, "the Silver King", and is a square construction with four towers of differing heights, the tallest rising high above the surrounding landscape. The keep is made out of similarly grey granite stone, the fortress as a whole has an intimidatingly dark aesthetic. Pilkala was later under the control of the house of Maijalan who controlled the fortress until the familial schism within the Ilkitala dynasty (known as the Succession of the Suns) which saw those of the Maijalan family lose the vast majority of their holdings within Doria, including Pilkala which was incorporated into the royal domain.
