Succession of the Suns

The Succession of the Suns was a civil war fought within Doria over which of the two major families of the Ilkitala Dynasty would succeed as Grand Duke of Canyndor, either the Ilkitala or Maijalan family. The war had larger implications as the Maijalan family which had a stronger familial claim to the title than the Ilkitala family, also had members who held the title of Duke of the Dales, leaving the possibility of the reunification of Doria under their rule a large factor in their popular support. The leaders of both factions were Valtteri of the Ilkitala family and Olavi of the Maijalan family who held the holdings of Anttula and Ilpamett respectively.
The War would span several years of mostly sparse conflicts, civil unrest and interference from foreign powers with interests in the region, most notably the Brynic kingdoms of Sarbrynia and Durabryn. Even when the Ilkitala family proved victorious over the Maijalans, the war would wage on as an underlying rift between the two factions and their followers. 
The Maijalans, upon their defeat, were stripped of a majority of their titles, many fleeing to foreign kingdoms. Those who would remain in Doria would need to subsist on meager titles or as influential subordinates to more influential nobles. This would cause much grievance and lead to many following conflicts over rightful inheritance and the rights of the disgraced Maijalan family. Though, still without many titles of note, the Maijalans remain an influential voice within the Doric region.
