Personal history
Rika's life had always seemed pre-disposed to her. Her first mother was a cleric, her second was a medical practitioner for their inland village. Both pushed her to become a healer as well, as it was a lucrative and stable choice. All people gather wounds, and all people need one to bind them, after all. And Rika had a deft hand for this, stable and true when she sewed wounds and managed gashes.
But she was taught, and she took her frustrations out with a samurai who frequented her town. He spoke of all his adventures beyond the sea to the north, wandering all manner of foreign lands, and how he vanquished his foes with a quick turn of a bowstring. One day, however, after having gathered herbs for her mother in the fields, Rika encountered her companion wounded, off his horse, on the side of the road. He had been skewered with a bandits arrow. Rika transported him home quickly, and without her mother's aid, removed the arrow, cleansed the wound, and saved the samurai's life.
As the man recovered, he insisted he was in his debt to her. As he could not journey by horseback for several months until his wound was fully recovered, he spent time with Rika teaching him the ways of archery. In that mere time, Rika became an expert, not merely at standing archery, but also horseback archery, with the samurai setting up intricate mazes of targets, all easily conquered. When the samurai finall said he was leaving the village, Rika knew she had no other recourse. She bid farewell to her parents, promised she was off to learn from the best healer in Ezo, and rode in the opposite direction with her companion to train in the ways of archery.
By age 23 she had risen in the ranks to become a captain of a small squad of archers, serving primarily on the walls of the Imperial Castle. Her positive attitude and outgoing personality allowed her to be one of the most well-liked junior officers in the area. It was that positivity that lured Kenji Nakamura, who insisted upon her the beauty in an adventure such as his own, which would take her across the entire planet if her fates allowed for it.
And like a leaf in a breeze, she could not say no. She retired from the military without a second thought, and joined the Masters of the Shrines to aid Kenji in his hairbrained schemes to Link the Shrines. While she had always heard tale The Vestiges, she never thought much of the truth of the religion until she had seen a true Thread going about their ways. Although their last mission was a failure, Kenji hopes to recruit a more cohesive team to guide their way west so that they can soon depart again.
