Rose
Rose is a Tiefling Witch and founding member of The Abnormals.
Little is known about Rose's past, to her or her adventuring companions. In early 784PS, Rose encountered the creature known as Butters a Archdevil hiding in the disguise of a cat. This was Rose's first and only memory. Naming herself after a flower she saw on the road, Rose headed south with Butters, wandering until she found herself in the small town of Falldale where she would meet the group that would become The Abnormals.
Rose joined the group on a job by Melvin Murgofield to explore an abandoned temple to Azdur, The Concept Itself. It would be in this dungeon she would first see a glimpse of her past, seeing visions of two figures, an expansive library, and several hostile cats. These nightmares however were morphed and broken for her companions, and so she didn't take much stock in their implications.
Rose's next hint towards her past would be when captured and interrogated by Vesper Charis of The Bitter Ring. Vesper having used her divination magic and intelligence gathering connections to try and identify the group, finding very little for Rose, only the names Compassion and Innis Ingen, and some link to the Forsarth Institute for the Betterment of Education.
Rose would again ignore these implications, knowing herself as Rose and Rose alone. Confirmation of her link to the Institute however would come from Lorena Weston while the group was visiting the Peregrine Keep for Duke Garrington's Winter Ball.
Rose would speak with Lorena and look at their notes of their time at the school, finding a portrait resembling Rose in the ledgers. Lorena would reach out to their friends at the school to see if she could find more information. This would eventually come in the form of a letter to Rose, detailing the life of Innis Ingen, a troublemaker and bully at the academy, her alliance with two other girls, Arikayis Quickcollar and Razira Stonefist, and their abuse of Zoltaira Nioh. Rose chose to not disclose this with her allies, keeping her past to herself and moving on.
Rose continued traveling with the Abnormals, fighting with them against The Crimson Corsairs and many other figures, including a Hag that cast more nightmares on the group, Rose seeing herself begging on the streets, and the death of an older woman who resembled her.
In Castle Amath she would meet the girl Arikayis, seemingly a former friend who recognised her, who confirmed much of what was in the letter. She warned Rose of Neventer Le Moal's vendetta against the group, and the group fled before much more could be said between the seemingly former allies.
Throughout her journey, Rose would commune with Butters, learning he was a Devil in disguise and had been banished from The Nine Layered Hells. She learned that he had been banished for unknown reasons and awoke in a Darkwood Grove in the Bonshall Woods.
The group would eventually venture there for many reasons, and while sailing the skies on The Delusions of Grandeur, she dreamt of Dilkitsu, The Genius, who told her to join him, and that he was the reason for Butters imprisonment on The Material Plane. Rose refused his offer of an alliance and so she awoke, the ship under attack from Erinys and Imps. The Abnormals defeated the attackers, finding that as opposed to dissolving into infernal ash, the Erinys instead turned into pink skinned tieflings, much like Rose herself. These women were revealed to be former apprentices of Butters, though he had no memory of how they came to be devils, or when in fact they left him.
More would be revealed for Rose in another temple to Azdur on the grounds of Oronin Var Ellehion's former manor, an The Age of Renewal mage who was revealed to have made a pact with Dilkitsu. Rose would be approached by the devil Sylveria, who would warn her of vague things to come, and of vaguee prophecies that may or may not occur, keeping her identity at this stage a secret from the tiefling. The confusing interaction would soon be cast aside due to the much grander reveal that the visions of Oronin the Abnormals had been seeing, a pact making Archmage with a pink skinned daughter, was in fact the original mortal self of the soul that would become the devil Zovosauriel, Butter's true name. Shocked and unsure what to do next, Rose and Butters continued travelling with the group, fighting the forces of Augustus Edwell Jr and The Burntwood Company.
The group would eventually make their way to The Independent Merchant Nation of Phosana on the hunt for Ramonda Ridel and the Half-Giant Malice. Here Rose would be captured alongside the rest of her party, but before this she would spy a wanted poster for one of her allies Control, which listed his known aliases, two of which she had read on her letter from Repository detailing her time at the Forsarth institute, names that her mother had told the school Rose's father went by. Rose confronted Control and shared her findings, the two discovering that it was not simple coincidence and Control had been in her home town around the time her mother fell pregnant confirming she had unknowingly been traveling with her father the whole time. The pair revealed this to the rest of their traveling companions, as well as many truths about their situation, Rose revealing the details of her presumed life and her meeting with Dilkitsu to the group, and the significance of their attacks by Erinys. Rose would also reveal to the party her presumed past, and why Zoltaira Nioh had given them such an wide birth since they helped free her and her friends from Peregot Prison.
It turned out that the impact of finding out his mortal origins had rattled Butters more than first imagined. He felt that he was no longer cosmically a devil, and instead forming into something different, something unknown. He revealed that he was the one to remove her memories, and that he could have returned them at any time, and that he did so in order to make her more malleable in order to be shaped into a weapon for him to use to return to the Hells. Butters told Rose he regretted this choice, and that the fact he had regret meant he was no longer strong enough to protect her from whatever it was Dilkitsu had planned for him, and so he disappeared, in the hopes that this would remove her from their 'game'.
Rose lost the innate powers gifted to her by Butters, having to fall back on her learned skills. Luckily, Butters leaving restored her memories, and so Rose could use her education and the assistance of Lorena Weston to catch up and officially learn wizardry, propelling herself back to power.
This power would be demonstrated when she and the Abnormals fought and killed T'Zellyn Hightower, the High Lord of Industry of Phosana. Ambushing him during a public display, the Abnormals killed the elven tyrant, ingratiating themselves with the resistance and helping free the citizens of Kaviri.
