Oceanside

Small Principality south of Lenay on the western Ocean.

Geography

Mostly low rolling hills, plains, forests, with marshy lowlands in the south and hills in the northwest and east. Borders Wickham's Bay in the north (and Lenay), Troy and Regar in the east, The Kingdom in the southwest. Oceanside is isolated and fairly secure, thanks to its geography and tyhe p[resence of strong, mostly friendly countries in the north and south.   Oceanside can be divided into roughly three sections: the north - from the Lenay border to the Mussel River; the south - south of the Mussel river; and the hills - the eastern reaches, from the Troy river south. The north is mostly hilly, rocky farmland - lousy farmland, most of the time, though you can eke out a living. There are forests in that area and some timber trade. Most of the region is oriented to the sea - fishing, some trading, etc. dominates the economy. All of it is exceedingly wet, as the warm currents hit the coast and drop gallons of water on the land. It is generally warm and wet in the winter, cool and wet in the summer, though there are times on the northern coast where the weather gets very pleasant. There is some snow - sometimes a lot of snow, though usually only inland.   South of the Mussel River, the terrain changes, becoming more like the lowlands of Lenay. This is even wetter than the north, and though there are some uplands, much of this part of the country is wetland. Some of this has been reclaimed, with dikes and canals and such, though at nowhere near the level as around Bayport.   The eastern marches of Oceanside are very different from either of the others. It is hill country, old worn down hills, but much higher and rougher than to the west. They get less precipitation than the coast, but it is still fairly wet, and in the winter, gets a fair amount of snow. The hills are heavily wooded, and often quite wild. There is a nice timber industry up here, and small, self- sufficient farms (the soil is better here, despite the hilliness), and some sheep and cattle grazing.

Fauna & Flora

Temperate, with woods in the highlands, marshes and bogs in the low.

Natural Resources

Oceanside has very few natural resources beyond those from the sea and the farming and timberland. It is, though, extremely rich in sea life, and the fishing industry is central to its economy.
