Elfheim Region

Elfheim is located at the eastern end of the Viking Sea. It is a large area with no central government, dominated instead by a number of smaller lords and towns. It is named for the elven kingdom that once held the area, and elven and half-elven lords still retain a good deal of influence in the area. It is located between larger, more cohesive countries - Lenay to the southwest, Troy to the south east, Bayport in the north, as well as elven and dwarven lands in the Saxon Hills.

Geography

Elfheim is located at the very eastern end of the Viking Sea. It is mostly a flat country, sloping up slowly from the shallow sea to the Saxon Hills, which bound it to the east. Most of the land here is low and flat, though there are ridges, downs and moors scattered throughout (especially in the north), as well as low wetlands, especially in the far south. Much of the land, though, is good farmland, forested (or partly deforested, for farming), with rich soil and a decent climate. It is not densely populated, anywhere, though a fair number of people live here. There are a handful of sizable towns, though most of the area is settled in small towns and villages, around manor houses or independent farming villages.   It is bounded geographically by the sea on the west, the Saxon Hills in the east, and the beginning of the Lenay Hills in the south. There are extensive moors in the north as well, separating it from Bayport and Barnet Bay. It is bounded politically by the sea tot he west (and Lenay beyond), the Elven realms in the hills, and Lenay and Troy in the southeast. None of these borders are contested - all of those realms tend to bleed into each other in a series of small holdings and villages with uncertain loyalties and a tendency toward neutrality.   The coast line is a mix of tidelands, shallow beaches and shelves, and steep bluffs rising from the sea. The sea is shallow throughout this area (treacherously so to the south), and there are many low, small islands scattered off shore. Inland, the land is relatively flat, usually about 40-50 feet above sea level, though there are both lowlands (And lakes, ponds and so on) and a few hills and ridges.

Fauna & Flora

Much of this area has been heavily forested, though the main plains have been cleared for farming. Still, many types of trees and plants can be found throughout the region. There are extensive lowlands, almost all wetlands, mires, marshes, fens and bogs, swamps, with an abundance of vegetation.

Natural Resources

Fishing is a major industry. Much of the plain is good farmland, though mainly self-sustaining - there is not a lot of import and export. There are forests and wetlands, which provide a good deal of resources as well. There is some mining in the hills, and recent attempts at exploration nearer to the coastlines. There is extensive peat harvesting in the lowlands.
