Desdemonia

The Seductress

Desdemonia was a succubus and a Marked of Yog. She was a player character in All Hail Yog, portrayed by Heather Lore.

“The devil leaves little to the imagination. Wearing a provocative harness of leather straps and iron studs, she wants you to admire all her amble curves. Her skin is a smoldering ember-red, her hair sanguine as blood. Curving ram’s horns, a spearheaded tail and two leathery wings make little bones about her abyssal nature. There is an undeniable beauty to her features, assuredly, but there’s something more than beauty – a fiendish magnetism, something that draws you deeper into her eyes, those obsidian pools of sheer black. Before you can take her fully in, she flounces away, her coquettish smile shifting into a feline snarl in the second before she turns.”

History

She may have begun life as a tiefling but, raised in the Houses of Temptation, Desdemonia became so much more. Through rigorous training and eldritch ritual, she – and all her coterie – were transformed from innocent tiefling children into true fiends. Diabolical infiltrators and provocateurs, they were perfectly designed to serve as spies and saboteurs for Yog’s efforts abroad.   Desdemonia, however, was a special case. As she neared the completion of her training, something triggered a murderous frenzy, a frenzy that slaughtered every other member of her graduating class. Rather than punish her, however, the priests merely alerted Yog, informing It that “there was something different about this one”. The following night, the aspect of Deceit came to Desdemonia’s bed to test her skills. When she awoke the next morning, she bore the Mark of Yog and became one of Its chosen.

Character

Personality

Desdemonia is the epitome of heartlessness. Normally cold and calculating, she kills for pleasure, taking relish in pain and bloodshed. Capricious to the core, she’s prone to wild mood swings. At one moment, she may be coy and seductive, the next shrieking and murderous. She is utterly devoted to Yog, more a creation of Its than a true servant, and, as a devil, is hostile towards anything celestial.

Abilities

As a succubus, Desdemonia is a master of infiltration, stealth and disguise. She can alter her form at will to appear to be any race, gender or description but must always retain some semblance of her true face. She’s magically beguiling, capable of charming even her worst enemies into new paramours. Her kiss, however, can be deadly, capable of draining an unsuspecting lover of their life force. In her devilish form, she has a pair of small leathery wings that allow her to glide short distances.   In addition, she’s trained as an assassin and a mastermind, wielding a short sword and a shortbow with deadly accuracy.

Campaigns

All Hail Yog

  • The Child: Desdemonia was among the four Marked tasked with kidnapping Princess Nimria from the wood elven kingdom of Cymbia. Fresh from a series of murders, she appeared – along with her fellow champions – before the Vessel in the Spires of Yog. She took an immediate dislike to Agnoment and, thanks to her shapeshifting abilities, displayed little concern about infiltrating the Wombwood. She was the most comfortable entering the Fissure but was somewhat less adept at navigating the forest. Upon reaching Vaer Quethrolas, Desdemonia glided to the palace’s entrance and cut her way through the guards. When Erick Idylvain transformed into his gargoyle form, the succubus was smitten and did everything she could to get the beast’s attention – but showed zero interest in his puny human form. When the elves retreated into the Bastion Tree, it was Desdemonia who opened the way, disguised as a wood elf emissary with an antidote for the supposedly poisoned princess. Inside the Bastion Tree, she worked her mischief, charming King Maoras and convincing him to open the way to the Servant Tree. When Agnoment swept into the room, she next steered him towards the nursery and her companions. Then he handed her the child and, by the skin of her teeth, the succubus made her good her escape, Princess Nimria screaming all the way. It was Desdemonia who handed the captured newborn into Yog’s arms.
  • The Instrument: Desdemonia was among the four Marked tasked with recovering the Starsphere from Cape Cowrie, where last the artifact was seen. Assassinating a marquis on Yog’s orders, she was nonetheless interrupted right before the killing strike, much to her chagrin. Upon arriving atop the Spire, she paced and hissed, further displeased at the sight of Agnoment. She was intrigued, however, by Phantasmagoria: in all her extravagance. Desdemonia was the last to leap into the First Fissure, sharing a short moment with the Vessel before departing. In Cape Cowrie, she shared another moment, this time with Phantasmagoria, before thrilling at her new Unholy Steed. As the villains approached the town of Wehr, Desdemonia volunteered for a scouting mission. On the outskirts of town, she knocked a halfling washerwoman, stole the necessary clothes, and strolled into town. In Wehr, Desdemonia followed Guthrie’s trail to the Tonnybrook Boys and learned from them where the astrolabe was sold – to Y. Wickerbock in Clamuth. As they crossed the bay, it was Desdemonia who spotted Ernst’s shipwrecked retainers but she failed to make mention of it. Having no need of Ernst’s arts, she strode into Clamuth under her own disguise. It was Desdemonia who discovered where to find the Wizard Wickerbock – Crookston-By-Water. During the parade, she was accosted by the Order of the Loyal Hound, her old adversary. In the Stargaze Spire, Desdemonia charmed her way into the wizard’s good graces and, when he couldn’t produce the astrolabe, she shoved him out a window. Rummaging through the antique shop, Desdemonia discoverd – and was repulsed by – Dee's collection of holy symbols. Upon arriving at the chapel, she was taxed beneath the hallowed aura but continued forward all the same. In the battle, Desdemonia shared an intimate moment with Phantasmagoria, disrupted the hallowed aura and slew the hound archon with an arrow. As they escaped with the astrolabe, Desdemonia swore an oath of vengeance against the treacherous Agnoment.
  • The Covenant: Desdemonia was among the four Marked summoned atop the conquered Gatehouse in Borson 897. When the summons came, she was plucked from a prison, her captivity abruptly ended in a gout of green flame. She was the first to investigate Skoura’s situation and even teased the great wounded dragon a little, much to the wyrm’s displeasure. In the slaughterhouse, she likewise taunted Shim with an eerie disguise. During their week of preparation, Desdemonia spied on all five leaders of the Covenant Kingdoms, learning their routines and mannerisms. For the next several days, Desdemonia lounged about the slaughterhouse, accompanying Azathomet on his nightly hunts and literally lounging on Skoura’s back while she feasted. On the eve of the attack, she – and Dr. Hughbert – snuck across the city, climbed the cliffs, slunk through the plaza and climbed the Quorum building. It was Desdemonia who activated the Dark Gift that summoned the acidic blizzard. When Skoura crashed the skylight and the bloodshed began, Desdemonia kept her distance, lobbing arrows from the balcony and slaying the Supreme Pontiff’s young protege before he could escape. When Queen Sionne came hunting her, Desdemonia refused to give the wood elf ranger battle, instead slinking through the Quorum’s shadows and firing arrows from cover. In the end, it was Desdemonia who claimed the most kills – the young Boris, Ydra, the dwarven queen and eventually Sionne herself. This last she slew by hand, emerging from the shadows to run the wood elven queen through. During their escape, Desdemonia run Skoura over the streets of Thorp and eventually used her disguise – as a perfectly ordinary citizen – to slip through the city’s manhunt and row her way back to the Gatehouse. There, she and her fellow villains were all warned about their failure by a displeased Yog.
