Starsphere

The Starsphere is an artifact of immense power. It appears as an astrolabe, bronze orb, covered in astronomical etchings. Created in the Vanished Time, the Starsphere was the device that the first elven astronomers used to chart the stars. Over the centuries, it traded hands many times, popping into and out of the histories. Despite its humble appearance, it is considered one of the most powerful items in all Ondûn – when properly utilized.   In the Fourth Age, Yog discovered the astrolabe’s squandered potential and sought to claim the instrument for Its own devices.

Campaigns

All Hail Yog

  • The Instrument: In 896 4A, Yog unearthed a promising lead on the Starsphere’s location – the humble halfling backwater of Cape Cowrie. Assembling a team of villains – Agnoment , Desdemonia, Ernst and Phantasmagoria – the Black Star dispatched them to retrieve the item. All across the countryside, the Marked of Yog chased the Starsphere’s trail. Once in the hands of the inept explorer Guthrie Washbuckle, it was sold then sold again and wound up in the hands of an equally inept halfling mage named Yancy Wickerbock. After interrogating and killing the wizard, they followed the trail to antique shop and eventually onto a chapel far out to sea, where Goldilocks, the Starsphere’s current owner and a disguised golden dragon, led them. There, a desperate struggle ensued, during which the villains nearly absconded with the artifact several times, thwarted by the treacherous Agnoment. Once Didemrios assumed her true shape, the villains made a hasty retreat, managing to slip past the dragon – with the Starsphere in tow – and return it to Yog’s clutches.
  • The Ritual: In 898 4A, Yog lent the precious Starsphere, fetching the device from its obsidian vault in the Houses of Enigma, to another quartet of its champions. This time, Dr. Hughbert, Ernst, Raelas and Smuj would use the device to contact Hadar, an extraplanar entity that Yog wished to treat with. The astrolabe was given into the care of Raelas, who used the library’s near-limitless resources to research the stars necessary for their summoning.
