Agnoment

The Fallen Angel

Agnoment was a fallen angel and a Marked of Yog. They are a player character in All Hail Yog, portrayed by Kate Enge.

“There is nothing particularly remarkable about this being’s appearance and yet you cannot tear your eyes away. They dress like a peasant in a simple shift, made from a mysterious fabric that’s neither silk nor wool nor burlap. When threatened, armor – spectral as a waking dream – coalesces like smoke around their body and, from nowhere, they manifest a longbow and quiver of arrows. It is their face, however, that most holds your attention. With androgynous features – both male and female, both young and old – they hold you with their piercing gaze and, when they speak, the depth and verve of their voice roots you in place.”
History

Created in 109 3A by the church of Gno in an effort to curb the rise of Yog, Agnoment spent their first few centuries as a preacher and crusader, traveling the world on the church’s behest, spreading the word and gospel of the Prime Pantheon. By and large, however, the world was recalcitrant to all the church’s attempts at conversion and, over the centuries, Agnoment embittered and eventually abandoned the faith.   As the Age was drawing to a close and Yog’s power only waxed, Agnoment led a small cult of zealots, preaching a stringent gossip of abnegation and corporal punishment. It was then that Yog Itself reached out to the adrift angel, offering Agnoment a deal. The Black Star managed to convinced the misguided celestial that, by aiding in Yog’s plans, it would shake the world from its apathy and godlessness, so revitalizing the worship of Gno, god of wisdom.

Character

Personality

Once a zealous crusader, Agnoment’s trust in mortals withered and died decades ago. They are cold and cynical about people, believing the whole of humanity to be selfish reprobates, too concerned with their own earthly desires to see the damnation destined for them all. Despite the bargain they’ve made with Yog, they nonetheless hold contempt for the Black Star and all its minions as well. Agnoment is the most reluctant Marked but, in their dedication to see the world redeemed, is no less willing to undertake Yog’s evil – by whatever means necessary.

Abilities

As a celestial, a being composed purely of divine faith, Agnoment is supernatural in nearly every way. Immortal and ageless, they were gifted incredible divine power at creation, power that they can wield to heal their allies or harm their enemies. A mere touch can cure the most grievous wound but that hand can deliver a smite to harrow the soul of even the most faithful. In addition, when angered, they can adopt a dreadful aspect that mere mortals quail to behold.   Their most distinguishing feature, of course, are their enormous feathered wings, sprouting from their back. With even the subtlest shift of those wings, Agnoment can remain airborne for hours at a time and, indeed, rarely touches the ground at all. In addition, they are girded by sacred armor and wield an radiant longbow, now corrupted by Yog’s necrotic influence, with deadly accuracy.

Campaigns

All Hail Yog

  • The Child: Agnoment was among the four Marked tasked with kidnapping Princess Nimria from the wood elven kingdom of Cymbia. Interrupted in the midst of a sermon, they appeared – along with their fellow champions – before the Vessel in the Spires of Yog. The most reluctant of any of the assembled villains, Agnoment was instantly antagonized by Desdemonia Malice and demonstrated their sacred restraint by not responding in kind. When they entered the fissure, the essence of Yog peeled away and created a lacuna for them to fly through. In the Wombwood, Agnoment refused to lead the company, choosing instead to hang near the back and interact with the wildlife they encountered. Upon reaching Vaer Quethrolas, Agnoment flew towards the palace entrance and initiated hostilities against the wood elven guards. During the battle, they assisted Erick Idylvain reach the palace entrance and flew through the air, peppering the elven defenders with arrows. When the elves fled into the Bastion Tree, Agnoment once again hung back, only emerging again once Desdemonia had infiltrated their inner sanctum. During the final battle, Agnoment flew circles around the Bastion Tree, seeking an entrance, and was peppered with arrows. After shrouding themselves in darkness, they seized their moment when Desdemonia contrived to open one of the drawbranches and allow them an entrance. There the angel weathered hail after hail of arrows, only to be cut down by Queen Sionne. Revived by Dr. Hughbert, Agnoment unleashed their dreadful shroud and drove the rest of the palace guard away. Another globe of darkness purchased the villains the time they needed to escape and teleport away, the child in their grasp.
  • The Instrument: Agnoment was among the four Marked tasked with recovering the Starsphere from Cape Cowrie, where last the artifact was seen. Wracked with guilt over their association with Yog, they were interrupted during penance, flogging themselves atop a cathedral of Gno. When atop the Spire of Yog, they were impassive as ever, refusing to rise to the baiting of Desdemonia or even the polite questioning of Ernst. Agnoment was the first to leap off the Spire and plunge through the First Fissure and so too the first to emerge in Cape Cowrie. Once the Unholy Steeds were summoned, Agnoment’s steed was quiet and respectful, not nearly as malevolent as Desdemonia’s mount. In the seaside cave, Agnoment brooded but eventually joined Phantasmagoria, lending their ghostly choir to the maestro’s spectral organ. On the outskirts of Clamuth, Agnoment – disguised as a dwarf by Ernst’s magic – shared a moment with a weatherbeaten shrine to St. Gnoelle. At Clamfaire, Agnoment questioned a small child about Yancy Wickerbock and squeezed a confession from the terrified youngster. At the Stargaze Spire, Agnoment said next to nothing but worked to put the wizard out of his misery as quickly as possible with an inflict wounds spell. Fleeing from Crookston-By-Water, Agnoment and their villainous comrades followed the beacon and approached the chapel on the rock. The celestial was untroubled by the hallowed aura that encircled the place. Upon meeting the halfling and hound who guarded the astrolabe, Agnoment nearly persuaded Dee to surrender the Starsphere. The two spoke at length over the ensuing combat and Dee, preying on doubts nested deep in the angel, persuaded them to turn against Yog and help her and her hound archon defend the astrolabe. Agnoment removed a curse Ernst laid upon the archon, cast buff spells on her righteous allies and even shot down Phantasmagoria as she attempted to flee. In the end, however, with their Mark of Yog writhing, Agnoment and her draconic ally were unable to stop the astrolabe escaping. As they winged away, Dee assured Agnoment that they could be cured, restored, redeemed.
