Cymbia

Cymbia was a sovereign kingdom of wood elves. Located primarily in the Wombwood of northern Emeros, Cymbia has established colonies and satellites in forests and woodlands all across Ondûn. Isolated and conservative, the wood elves of Cymbia are extreme traditionalists who have spurned nearly all contact with the outside world.

Geography

The Wombwood is the birthplace of the elven people and the seat of Cymbia. A forest that once blanketed all of Emeros, the Wombwood is now prescribed to the continent’s northern reaches. It is an old growth forest and is primarily deciduous, thick and undisturbed by the outside world. Following the Awakening in 91 3A, the Wombwood became all the more difficult to navigate.   In some sense, all physical locations within the forest are unfixed. The awakened treefolk can whisk its citizens from place to place after only a short walk. So too can they damn interlopers to an eternity of aimless wandering. It is therefore impossible to properly map the entire forest beyond its boundaries.   Important locales in Cymbia include:
  • Vaer Quethrolas: The royal palace is the dwelling of the nation’s two dynasts and the seat of all government in Cymbia.

History

Main Article: Elven History   Once part of the greater elven empire, Cymbia was forged in the fires of revolution. Thanks to a growing schism with the high elven aristocracy, a conservative faction of the wood elven populace overthrew the human-friendly regime and crowned Dai, once a common soldier, as the first Queen of Cymbia. Successive wars with Thorp, however, drove the nation to cast a mighty mythal and awaken the very trees of the forest in a drastic bid to protect their homeland from future incursion.

Politics & Culture

Cymbia is a nation of traditionalists, favoring a return to their ancestral and purging everything modern and multicultural from their lands. A monarchy ruled by druids and dwelling in arboreal cities, they venerate the strength and longevity of nature, as personified by trees. They are a collectivist and militaristic people, devoted to national defense and eliminating all poverty or want from their society. Immigration is forbidden, save in rare circumstances, and Cymbia maintains few diplomatic and no trade relations with other nations. Strangest of all, Cymbia does not measure the passage of years, maintaining such a static state of affairs that each elven citizen lives day-to-day with little concern or understanding for their historical context.   At the time of All Hail Yog, Cymbia is ruled by King Maoras and Queen Sionne. Following the kidnapping of their daughter in 895 4A, the dynasts made an unprecedented alliance with the Covenant Kingdoms and joined the alliance.

Religion

Compared to the high elves, religion plays an important role in wood elven lives. In 503 2A, following the schism, Queen Dai glorified the worship of three members of the elven pantheon – Oathem, Daemuth and Gnorion – while forbidding the worship of the other three – Iboriel, Auranath and Visemria, those favored by the high elves. Shrines are common but temples rare; there is no centralized religion in Cymbia. Wood elven clerics and paladins tend to be solitary knights or advisers, rather than members of a larger clergy.

Campaigns

All Hail Yog

  • The Child: In Hemson 895 4A, Yog tasked Its four champions – Agnoment, Desdemonia, Dr. Hughbert and Erick Idylvain – to infiltrate Cymbia and kidnap Princess Nimria, alive and unharmed. Arriving in the Greenguard Mountains, they crossed the woodland border and were immediately met by an elven patrol. A spy within that patrol guided them to Vaer Quethrolas and from there they launched their attack. Slaying several guards, the villains gained a foothold inside the palace. After the dynasts and their household guard fell back to the Bastion Tree, Desdemonia managed to talk the princess into her grasp. After a prolonged battle, the villains made good their escape, thanks to a high elven spy, posing as an eladrin ambassador.
  • The Watchtower: By Mutson 895 4A, Cymbia had joined the Covenant Kingdoms. Wood elven archers were among the defenders of the Gatehouse when Yog’s forces attempted to conquer the stronghold. The villains even attempted to disguise themselves – unsuccessfully – as a Cymbian patrol.
  • The Covenant: Queen Sionne of Cymbia was among the leaders assembled at the Quorum when Yog's assassins struck. While fighting valiantly, she nonetheless perished at the hands of Desdemonia.
