Croterfyn (/Krɒtərfin/)
Yes, the eastern passage out of Marlun. But no one ever travels through the great valley. People only travel to the last stop right before it, Corterfyn, the Gateway to the Valley. It comes as no surprise that travellers wonder and ask those who live in the town if anyone ever has travelled beyond. The only answer that ever is given is "yes". But none who goes beyond the Narrow Rift has ever returned.Croterfyn is located in eastern Marlun and is one of the larger settlements that have long existed permanently there. The town is small compared to the size of the others, housing 1717 Humans, Dwarves and Demons. It is considered among the oldest of settlements having been founded around the 1800s. Due to the The War for Marlun there has been little time and reason to send official explorations outwards. Several explorers and expeditions, however, have gone missing and never returned from the east, giving the town its moniker as "The Gateway to the Valley". Since it is located far from the actual war, Croterfyn has had a peaceful life but has not grown due to the lack of interest from any factions. The current ruler and elected mayor, the so-called Foolish Dean, have in the name of The United Council's Territory of Glarn control over the town.— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
Demographics and History
While the original founding is unknown, it is believed that the town was founded around the time Marlun was starting to be explored around 1400 V.D but no official sources have ever confirmed this. The only known date is 1789 were an official from The United Kings Council mentioned "a settlement that rests before the eastern passage". Why the 1800s are seen as the founding from the United Council's perspective is not fully understood by the inhabitants. What is known is that the name "Croterfyn" is of Necur origin which has sparked the history that the demons were the first settlers. This, combined with the War for Marlun, might explain why the real founding date will never be known since the war has clouded who arrived first.
In spite of this hypothetical history, the majority population is human, with 983 being humans, 620 being demons and 114 dwarves. Animosity between the races is rare unlike in Glarn or the other larger settlements in Marlun and intermingling between them is much more common. Dwarves do have their own district called "Anvils district" but humans and demons live here as well. Many of these dwarves hail from survivors or those lucky that was not in the mountain-homes to the north-east when The Great Quakes hit Marlun. The town is also very helpful to others and amongst themselves with the fields and food distributed mostly equally between the families.

The United Council's Territory of Glarn
Kinda sounds scary knowing you're living next to a point-of-no-return border basically.
Too low they build who build beneath the stars - Edward Young
Yes, I can agree with that and yet they are somehow cheerful with their life so close to the edge and point-of-no return.
You are welcome to explore Nimenra, a world in conflict between Humans and Demons.
