Chapter 4, Session 13: Serving
General Summary
No matter what happens, no matter how deep the torture becomes... I can easily say that I was proud to have served you princess.Mallus Somnium chose to stay with Sigholdt Sofiasson and Thrudirim to train as the rest of the party went to The Diamond Detention Centre. After going through due process, they put their belongings in the bag of holding and got frisked before stepping through the door. Suddenly the alarms went off, as Sofia the Waking Witness failed to sneak her magic items in. After convincing her to hand them over, the party headed to a room for the Dream spell - the cell filled like a sand pit due to sand being the required magical component. Sofia cast Dream on the whole group, allowing everyone to meet with Wraith. When Hermione of Vallea called his name, Wraith thought it was just another interrogation by The Jewelled. It took Hermione telling him the gift his family gave her for her 10th birthday (a tinkering kit with amethyst handles) for him to believe her. He felt a kinship with Esmerae and Peregrine when they introduced themselves as Hermione’s protectors, agreeing it was a hard job. Hermione told Wraith about her run-ins with The Woven Providence. It turned out Wraith also knew of the many lives Ilios the Persecutor seemed to have. After a run-in with Ilios, he chose to stay to keep the Woven Providence from Hermione - they spared Wraith as he was not on their list. Since then, Wraith had been trapped in the prison, as the guards wanted him to admit who he and Hermione were. They implied if he caved, they would make him a Jewelled Diamond Holder - particularly if he admitted Hermione wasn’t in prison. The guards seemed to know what Queen Agliai Vallea did but had no proof - if he refused, he would stay in prison. Wraith and Hermione apologised to each other, with Wraith promising to keep her secrets. Wraith told the party about the breakout earlier a few months back, where four Teneted vampires broke out Tarniq Seraf (who is now a vampire and the killer of Viktor - a known vampire hunter). Hermione reassured Wraith, who begged her to survive and keep herself safe and free. Wraith also told her to stop announcing her name in places. Peregrine offered to get him a lawyer, but he told her not to give him false hope. He even said he’d choose retirement in Peridot rather than staying in Kaechaek as he now thoroughly dislikes the country. Wraith also told Hermione to go to the Brass Forge - a Gearhead Smithy, as he’d left a stash there for her. Hermione guaranteed she’d live, making Wraith smile. As the party left, he told Hermione it was nice to see her again. She asked for a moment, and the rest of the party got yeeted out of the dream. Sofia seemed tearful over Hermione and Wraith’s doomed love. The pair had a little chat about Jolly and Hermione’s growing strength. She told him she missed him - he returned the feelings. Hermione promised to kill the Woven Providence assassin the party had fought - as he went to leave, Wraith said it was an honour serving her. In response, she stated: You’ll serve me again. The party collected their belongings and left. Once back at the inn, Hermione broke down and Esmerae and Peregrine comforted her before Sofia laid into Sigholdt and his father about the damages to the room due to their training - not to mention taking a child (Malus) into battle. Sofia recommended the party get perfumes to cover their smell and tracks, as it would mess with the senses of The Black-Blooded hunting Malus. She also recommended restricting emotional displays, and if the party had to fight them, to kill them fast. Before she left, Peregrine asked if she could help her. Despite being very scary approaching Peregrine, Sofia gently took her hands and told her so far Peregrine was making the best choices she could. But Sofia admitted if she looked into Peregrine’s dreams and learned she was linked to the Long Night, she would have to kill her. Instead, she would give her the best protector: her son. Peregrine promised to look after SIgholdt, and Sofia seemed to stop herself saying something. Peregrine offered her a private message, and after asking her to promise not to tell Sigholdt what she would say, she imparted a secret message. Sofia bid goodbye to the party and fetched her husband, as Peregrine told Sigholdt she was going to protect him. Hermione thanked Sigholdt, and the party took a long rest! In her sleep, Peregrine spoke again with She Who Walks the Line/They Who Speak to the Rest , updating her on what had happened. 'Walker' told her to appeal to Whispering Light(person:7274444e-40fc-4e6e-9a33-09f7b1f36e2f) again at the time he was leaving, suggesting a group might get him to extend his travel with the party, or agree to a change in plans. Walker couldn’t say too much about the dreams but did admit they belonged to [The Sleeping King . Walker told Peregrine the Cog dreams were the making of The Dreamwoven . Walker warned Peregrine Whisper was going to likely die and, when asked, Walker stated she liked her solitude but also liked Peregrine’s chats. The next day, Hermione and SIgholdt went to meet Hermione’s mysterious friends, as the rest of the party went to get perfumes and potions. Perfume scents: Hermione: 1. Midnight black amber, earthy root, dark red roses, carnation, moss, resin, myr and bay leaf. 2. Oak moss, juniper, patchouli, tobacco, clove and incense. Malus: Coffee Sigholdt: Armour oil Esmerae: Florals Peregrine: Oud, amber, spiced fruits & wild berries (a warm, spicy/fruit-sweet scent). Hermione also got the stash Wraith told her about. The party finished shopping and headed to the temple to wait for Hermione and SIgholdt who were visiting the Architects. Sigholdt was led into a locked-down waiting room as Hermione went to meet her contact. On being asked why they wanted the Graphomancy information, they stated they wanted to change the world - one way being self-repairing/protecting cities. If Hermione wrote The Architect's a tome with all her knowledge, she would get her magic book, and they would help her free Wraith. Hermione’s contact was confident they could do it. If she tried to screw them over, however, they would turn on her with all their power. Hermione presented a pre-prepared contract, including Wraith’s freedom and return to her, as well as anti-scrying amulets. Hermione’s contact stated the Architects made deals a little differently, not needing written contracts. Instead, Erenar Ffim shook Hermione’s hand and stated Hermione was now oathsworn. As Hermione left, she found SIgholdt causing more chaos, having escaped the waiting room and riding around on his summoned steed. They left together and Hermione gave Sigholdt some vague details. On their way back, the pair saw a lot of guards on the streets, learning there was a missing person - an escaped prisoner described as a Kae native who hid in the shadows. As the party gathered at the temple, the roads around it seemed empty. Sihgoldt and Esmerae could see speckles of blood under the door, and blood in the windows. Esmerae could sense life in the chapel - four life forms to be exact. Peregrine and Sigholdt ran in (Esmerae tossing Peregrine through the window). Sigholdt saw the temple floor covered in blood, with the patients killed as well as many clerics. Sighodlt could see The Nocta Mori Trauma hounds on the bodies. He then saw Stretched Ink with a crazed look holding a knife to Whisper. She called out: “Shh, she’s not here yet”. As Peregrine entered and asked what Stretched Ink was doing and why, she answered that she wanted to slit the old man’s throat, and proceeded to do so. As the party rolled initiative, Stretched Ink stated to Peregrine: “See? It was all for your group!” Whisper is confirmed dead, though is still in revivify range.
- Wraith and Hermione of Vallea finally get to see eachother once again.
