Thelassia

The Thelassian League is a confederation of matriarchal drow city-states that already had a shared history, culture, and religion. Each city-state's government appoints representatives that vote on behalf of their city state in the elections of League officials.   Beyond this, the cities are free to govern themselves however they wish. Some are centuries old monarchies, others are new and vibrant democracies, etc. The primary task of the League government is to provide a method of conflict resolution amongst the various member states, to prevent a conflict from tearing the fragile confederation apart. A secondary task of the League government is to direct a combined military defense, or offense.   The distributed and loose nature of the confederation means that Thelassia is rarely a major presence in international events, unless directly targeted by a foreign power. Their most recent, prominent foray into international politics is holding the summit for the various nations that form the alliance that fought against the Empire of the New Covenant, during The Catalyst War  , even if they themselves did not join in the fight   The natural aptitude that the female drow have towards innate, powerful, magics has resulted in a society that seems to flip the gender roles that dominate many of the nations of Mithlonde. The soldiers, politicians, and leaders are almost exclusively female, with male drow filling the more service roles in society.
