Atresa Organization in Kalin | World Anvil

Atresa

Set at the mouth of a river Atresa is best known as the trading capital of the world, and is often considered a city of soft merchants. This title is equal parts accurate and inaccurate. While the city has a thriving trade culture to call the city soft would be a gross simplification. Its politicking and smart use of its less advanced military might has led to it becoming one of the premiere powers in Kalin, with its annexation and conquest of both Virnos and Ibrim.   The city is also known for being the origin city of the Guilds, as the Guild Compact was drafted and signed in Atresa. Like many cities the easy to access and public areas are well kept and guarded, however wandering off the beaten path could land you in trouble. Despite the wealth flowing into the city, crime is not unheard of.   Atresa is ruled by the Primor, who oversees the Council of Prime Lords. Positions on the council are historically gifted and awarded with the Primor’s wishes and approval of the Council, they can also be taken away in such a manner. While the Council may write and declare laws, all laws must be signed off by the Primor.

Demography and Population

Atresa is a Fallen City, making it a massive city state that has taken control of local kingdoms. It is mostly human with other races inhabiting it. It has a large amount of Guilds, but also has traditional things such as fishing villages and towns which are usually ruled by a Prime Lord. The Prime Lords collect taxes and then themselves pay a tax.

Territories

Atresa was always a good sized nation, but now dominates the eastern part of Kalin, having absorbed territory from Virnos and Ibrim during its conquest of those territories, and the southern Nation of Ghosts after The Tharrisian War.

Military

Until recently, Atresa had a small military, but usually relies on levies in a time of war, as well as a mass hiring of the Guilds, who are almost always willing to defend their home city.   After the conquest of Virnos and Ibrim, the Atresan military underwent extensive reform. A joint command structure was made to organization cooperation between the Atresan, Virnosian, and Ibrimese militaries for purposes of both future wars and training. Since then, the Atresan army has become a professional one like the Virnosian one, mixing with guild auxiliaries in times of need.

Technological Level

While lagging behind Virnos originally, Atresa's conquest of Virnos has led to vast improvements of technology across Atresa and its territory.

Religion

Atresa mandates no religion, and it is sometimes joked Atresan's only worship coin. However most people in Atresa worship the mantle, though druidic worship of nature is fairly common as well.

Agriculture & Industry

Atresa imports most of its industry, but has large amounts of farm towns and cities in its northern territories.

Trade & Transport

Atresa is a large merchant city, with goods from all over Kalin flowing into Atresa to go overseas or visa versa. Additionally many guilds are headquartered in Atresa.
