New Years Resolutions 2024

Happy new year everyone! 2023 was my first year using WorldAnvil and I had so much fun. Technically, I joined WorldAnvil at some point during 2020 (I think) but for reasons I can't remember I didn't start to use it until the end of September last year. I can honestly say that it has already become such a big part of my life and I can't believe I didn't find it sooner. Before I jump in to my reading challenge articles and resolutions for the year, I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has read, liked or followed my world this year. When I started this project I had no idea that I would ever write something that someone else would want to read! You guys are all amazing and I hope you stick around for 2024.

Reading Challenge

Throughout Worldember I read lots of amazing articles by lots of amazing worldbuilders so narrowing it down to ten was a challenge. Instead of picking 10 article by 10 different authors, I have chosen to pick six different authors who have taught me something about worldbuilding and showcase one or two of their articles. So, in no particular order we have *drumroll*...

PrincessESH

PrincessESH wrote about dragons for most of Worldember and being one of my favourite mythological creatures, I just has to feature them here. I loved how they managed to create so much diversity between the different species of dragons, but, most importantly, I enjoyed reading about them.
Tower Vex
Dragon | Apr 7, 2024

Fierce and fiery dragon known to make its nest in abandoned buildings

Dragon Wings
Generic article | Feb 17, 2024

Wings crafted with edylium that can be summoned and dismissed at will

Skairunner

Before Worldember, I hadn't read any of Sky's articles but as soon as i did, I couldn't stop reading them. Although I write fantasy myself, I am also a massive sci-fi nerd, so I was amazed by the detail in all of the articles about the different spacecraft and technologies. I also really like how Sky's articles are presented and it has made me want to focus more on formatting this year.
Pater-class Carrier
Vehicle | Dec 31, 2023

The Pater-class is a fast carrier employed by the Jovian Orbital Guard. It serves a crucial part of the Orbital Guard's anti-piracy strategy, operating as a mobile spaceport that can launch and resupply Cyklopes incredibly close to areas of operation.

Nnie

I really enjoyed the way that Nnie's articles tell a story and make the world feel alive. It makes the world feel real to me and I think that that's a skill I would like to build on in my own worldbuilding. Also, the artwork always makes the articles feel so much more colourful and alive.
Cuisine of the Mercurian Nomads
Tradition / Ritual | Feb 4, 2024

The culinary practices of the Nomads of Mercury have a profound impact on the areas they travel through. Wherever they travel, they bring foods and seeds with them.

Nomads of Mercury
Ethnicity | Dec 31, 2023

In the harsh extremes of Mercury, the nomadic peoples of the planet live on the edge. Their traditional migration patterns have made the terminator nomads uniquely suited to life after the Scorching of Mercury, but it is by no means an easy life.

Mochimanoban

What to say about Mochi? I have loved every single one of their articles that I have read. They format their articles really well so that even 1000+ word articles feel easy to read. As I said previously, formatting is one of my big goals for 2024 and I aspire to reach this sort of level of formatting.
Bean Baking
Tradition / Ritual | Dec 25, 2023

A Capepan tradition that occurs on the winter solstice each year. Baking beans apparently brings good fortune in the upcoming year.

Inanimalia
Fauna | Mar 8, 2024

A kingdom of organisms characterised by their magical origins.

Stormbril

I had to feature Stormbril purely because of the magic they work with CSS. Every time I look at their world, I find another thing that I would never believe possible in WorldAnvil. On top of this, their writing is amazing and I still struggle to comprehend the fact that they wrote almost all of worldember in a single article!
Trinket Chest
Generic article | Jan 15, 2024

A large chest that will gradually fill up with trinkets as you find them across the various articles of Cathedris. Each trinket comes with a few hundred words of lore, too!

The Acquisitioner's Locked Scroll
Generic article | Dec 24, 2023

A mysterious locked scroll you found... what's inside?

Notahumanhand

Wow,wow,wow,wow,wow... Notahumanhand managed to write over 150,000 words during worldember and this article was only part of them. For 8000 words, the formatting of this cookbook along with the table of contents make this article a surprisingly easy read. It really brought to life the cultures and peoples of the world and made you think about their everyday lives.
The World-Traveller's Cookbook: Recipes of Etharai
Document | Feb 21, 2024

A collection of recipes from cultures across the planet

My 2024 Resolutions

CSS

My main goal for 2024 is to redo the css for Iastarene. I have a lot of issues with the current theme, including accessibility issues due to poor contrast text. I care a lot about my world looking good, but also being readable by anyone who wants to. This will certainly be a tricky goal and may not happen for a few months, but I will soon be beginning work in a CSS test World in order to progress towards completing this goal.

Formatting

I often struggle with my articles becoming the dreaded wall of text and so I want to work on my article formatting in 2024, this does somewhat go hand in hand with my CSS goals, and I will continue to work on them together.

TTRPG

My biggest goal for 2024 is beginning to write my own ttrpg. This is something I've wanted to do for a very long time and will hopefully start to become a reality this year.
So, i hope you all have an amazing 2024 and write all sorts of amazing articles. Good luck everyone, and a happy new year!

WorldEmber Overview

In my WorldEmber homework I said that I probably wouldn't be able to finish the challenge but, gues what? I did. It was challenging at times but I managed to finish with a total of 10002 words! I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support of the amazing community and being motivated by others progress, so for that I thank you. I am looking forward to the challenges that 2024 has to bring, and, taking part in my first ever summercamp. 2024 is going to be an exciting year!

Really good article straight to the point. Also like how you take a bit of time at the beginning to personally reflect on your year.

I think one of the easiest ways to warm my heart is to praise my girlfriend, Sky. I am very flattered that you've included articles by us both, and that you've enjoyed Solaris!   Wishing you lots of luck with the overhaul and figuring out the right kind of formatting for your work! And if possible, I wish you even more luck with the TTRPG!
