Hereditary Crown Royal of Crathlia

This is the most powerful child of the Hereditary Monarch of Crathlia and the Chosen Monarch of Crathlia. He or she is the heir to the title of Hereditary Monarch and will one day rule the Kingdom of Crathlia.   He or she also has the courtesy title Prince(ss) of Wavebreak.

Requirements

At minimum, the crown prince or princess must be a member of the Alderley Clan, a direct descendant of the first king of Crathlia, King Matthew Alderley the Great. Except in extreme circumstances (such as, Creator forbid, a king and queen being unable to bear children), he or she is the child of the king and queen, determined to be the most powerful of their children.   The determination of "most powerful" has varied throughout history. Since 1200, it has been defined by power level as tested through blood. Prior to that date, it was decided through dueling and other tests as determined by the royal family.   A crown prince or princess may not marry a foreign national.

Appointment

A crown prince or princesses is named by the current king and queen in a ceremony held in the national cathedral. As with the coronation of a new monarch, as many representatives of High and Noble Clans as can be gathered are to be in attendance.   Historically, this ceremony would begin the courtship of the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss). Today, as the Chosen Crown Prince(ss) is determined by blood test, the royal family often announces the new Hereditary Crown Prince(ss)'s betrothal, particularly if he or she is fifteen years of age or older. (In my case, though Victor was only eleven when he was declared crown prince, our engagement was announced due to my exceptionally high power levels. A 153.05 is difficult to beat in modern times; indeed, I easily surpassed all those younger than me, as expected.)

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

An otherwise qualified prince or princess can lose his or her title as crown prince or princess by marrying a foreign national. This law was put in place by nobles who wanted to ensure that it was their interests that were being furthered by the royal family, not the interests of the mainland or other royal families. In this case, the title passes to his or her next most powerful sibling. If there are no other siblings, the most powerful member of that generation of the Alderley Clan becomes the crown prince or princess.   At the ascension to the title of Hereditary Monarch of Crathlia, any siblings of the crown prince or princess, who are equal in lineage to their sibling, may challenge the throne in a duel to the death, as long as they have not married foreigners. If they do not challenge, they must renounce their claims while their sibling still lives and swear to protect their sibling with their lives. Today, this part of the coronation is merely ceremonial; no royal siblings have dueled to the death in 300 years.
