Chosen Crown Royal of Crathlia
This is the crown prince or princess of the Kingdom of Crathlia who is not a member of the Alderley Clan. He or she is married to the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss) and will one day become the Chosen Monarch of Crathlia. In modern times, this will be the highest-scoring person of the opposite sex within five years either direction of the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss)'s age.
His or her role is supporting the royal family in preparation for his or her ascention to the throne.
Requirements
The Chosen Crown Prince(ss) must be the most powerful Crathlian noble of the opposite sex of the Herditary Crown Prince(ss) within five years either way of his or her birth. The decision to limit the selection to that narrow ten-year margin of age was traditional in order to increase the likelihood of producing an heir.
The determination of "most powerful" has varied throughout history. Since 1200, it has been defined by power level as tested through blood. Prior to that date, it was decided through dueling and other tests as determined by the royal family.
Appointment
As described in the article for the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss), traditionally, the announcement of a Hereditary Crown Prince(ss) began his or her courtship. However, today, as the Chosen Crown Prince(ss) is chosen based on power level, the royal family often announces the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss)'s betrothal at the same time, particularly if he or she is already fifteen years of age or older. (In my case, though Victor was only eleven when he was declared crown prince, our engagement was announced due to my exceptionally high power levels. A 153.05 is difficult to beat in modern times; indeed, I easily surpassed all those younger than me, as expected.)
A Chosen Crown Prince(ss) is crowned at his or her wedding to the Hereditary Crown Prince(ss).
