The Talons

Home to the small city of Kyloa, these islands are infamous throughout the world. They are a set of three tropical islands that house many of the pirate hideouts in Gloratium. Small inlets make up the coasts of the islands and provide the perfect place for "privateers" to take refuge. Often these pirates will venture into Kyloa on occasion to trade stories, stock up on supplies, and visit the towns bars and brothels. The Talons are also home to such pirating activity because of their proximity to the vital sea routes coming in and out of the Hand of Marea, especially those coming from the White Islands. Some excursions have been made into the Islands by stronger powers but ultimately have ended in failure as the pirates there can easily outrun and hide their captors. Overall though the islands are beautiful and some members of the academic world often attempt to visit them to study their plant and animal life.

Geography

Having been formed by ancient volcanoes, these islands have rich soils and gently sloping hills. They are also dotted with small inlets and secluded coves which provide the homes for the pirates of this part of the world. The main island is slightly more rugged as it is the youngest of the three, and was actually made up of two smaller volcanoes merging into one island long ago.

Fauna & Flora

Flora   Many kinds of tropical plants cover this island taking advantage of the rich soil and frequent rain. Marea palm dot the coast lines while larger tropical trees create a canopy on the shallow slopes of the volcanoes. The locals have long cultivated many types of tropical fruits such as passion fruit, bananas, and the Oceans Delight Melon. This melon's name was translated from the local language when the first sailors arrived. It has a thick outer skin which reveals a bright red interior with a bundle of seed in the middle. Stories of wrecked sailors finding this melons adrift in the sea have circulated throughout this part of the world, giving credence to the name.     Fauna The islands lack any large animals, but are home to many types of bird, which bare some similarities to those found on The Hand. Known as Mercatin Chestals, these cousins of the Common Chestal are brightly colored and are slightly larger than their land based relatives. They have long been used by the native islanders as a way to communicate between villages on the various islands, although in a less formal format than on the mainland.

The islands are devoid of much in the way of natural resources besides its fruits.
