Siren's Island
Origins of Siren's Island
Situated in the Draconian Ocean, to the Northeast of Thrantium, just round the headland, is Siren's Island. A naturally formed island, the rocky outcropping is believed to have once been part of the mainland, before it was gradually eroded away. The landmass itself is characterised by its sharp and jagged rocks, which ring the shore. There is little wildlife of flora on the island. The formation of the Island provides a wonderful habitat for Sea Spawn and Sirens. Local inhabitants of Thrantium and the surrounding areas, believe the island to be haunted and therefore don't often dare to venture there. These superstitions may have been caused by the sound of the Sirens' songs blown onto shore on windy days, or by the high number of souls lost to the rough currents and dangerous rocks round the land. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants, many ships were pulled to their death by the entrapped mighty Sea-Dragon, Marenthrix, within the cave on the island. In Our Story
In our tale, Jackob Aar, Knor Ti Knockarz, Larry Tinkle, Terry Tinkle and Vyth Aar, made their way to Siren's island in order to find a new home for Hypsile, the Nereid, who was living in the Mines of Arbron at the time. In addition, from their dealings with the Four Fingers, they discovered that the new leader, Big Chungus, had ventured to Siren's Island and returned with some magical power or item. Having chartered the Sweet Lady as a vessel from Barmy Arthur, the group made their way to the island. However, storms quickly and seemingly magically whipped up and the party were forced to battle the elements and encroaching Sea Spawn for survival. Barely making it to the land intact, they discovered the body of a Four Finger's member on the shore, reinforcing the rumour that Big Chungus had come to Siren's Island and left with an artifact or power. The group then decided to enter the cave. Inside the cave, the party discovered the body of Big Chungus along with incriminating evidence, which revealed that a source in the Mage's guild of Viseria had deceived the criminal, before killing him. The party deduced that the current Big Chungus was therefore an impostor, masquerading as the dead leader of the Four Fingers. The group also discovered a clue as to the identity of the mage traitor, from a letter on Big Chungus' body: the letter J. Journeying further into the cave, the group found an imprisoned Sea Dragon. The Sea Dragon revealed himself to be Marenthrix, scourge of the Draconian Ocean, who had been imprisoned here by Thrantos at the end of the dragon wars, in order to guard his greatest creation, the siege-stone. A battle ensued, during which Vyth misty stepped onto Marenthrix's head and wreaked havoc. The party managed to slay the ancient dragon and investigated the cave that had once held the siege-stone of Thrantos. The party discovered that the siege-stone had been created by Thrantos as a failsafe to take back his city and guild from his pupils, whom he viewed as treacherous in his paranoia. An inscription revealed the function of the artifact: "This stone here, the siegestone, will help me conquer my city when they inevitably try to snatch my city from me. He who holds this stone, holds the might of an army of magic in his hand. He who holds this stone will be me, Thrantos, of the blue palm and white beard.". However, the siege-stone had been removed, presumably by the impostor Big Chungus and the traitor mage. All that was left was a Lotus flower, just like the compass that had guided Jackob to the portal into the fey in the first place. Returning to the mainland to inform Hypsile that her new home was ready and to relay to Sir Hama what they had found, the group now knew two things: the Four Fingers were being led by an impostor; that impostor had control of one of the most powerful magical artifacts ever created. The bonk squad returned to the island to visit Hypsile with Master Kriv Argenthrixus and Master Vivienne, to see if she could fix Master Vivienne's mind, that had been broken by the J impostor fey's magic.Remove these ads.
