Marenthrix

Background and Role in Our Story

Marenthrix was hatched in 143AVD, his sires are unknown. He grew among the coral reefs that lie off the west coast of Draconia, gaining size and strength until he joined his brethren in attacking Hurron and enforcing their dominion over the whole continent to the West of Viseria. 
Marenthrix earned himself the title of Scourge of the Draconian Ocean, sinking boats and whole fleets of warships to the bottom of the seabed as the wars raged on. Marenthrix's most abominable achievement was the sinking of the elvish town of Lithanye beneath the waves. Emerging from the depths of the ocean, like a watery effigy of death itself, he whipped up a colossal whirlpool that enveloped the town and dragged it down to the depths, forever lost to the surface. For nigh a hundred years, Marenthrix caused misery and fear across the coastline of Hurron and Draconia alike until Thrantos and Faerun IV, backed by their gathered army of Viseria, defeated him in battle in 3AVD. A key turning-point in the dragon wars, Marenthrix's defeat enabled Faerun and Thrantos to make an alliance with the elves of Hurron, who were happy to see vengeance delivered upon Marenthrix.
However, unknown to most bar his inner circle, Thrantos imprisoned Marenthrix on Siren's Island rather than killing him. His intentions can only be guessed at: perhaps he always had the intention of using Marenthrix to guard his creations; perhaps he thought it more suitable punishment for one that had caused such pain; perhaps he wanted a subservient dragon available for future battles. Whatever his reason, Thrantos bound Marenthrix by a magical collar in the cave on Siren's Island and later ensnared him in a magical pact to let no mortal of this world pass him. 
Marenthrix was charged by Thrantos with guarding his most dangerous creation, the siege-stone. The stone was guarded as much by the island's reputation, which was built up due to the storms Marenthrix created around his prison. For almost 700 years, Marenthrix lay chained and crammed in his cavernous jail, almost entirely undisturbed. It wasn't until 683VD that people came to his island, searching for the siege-stone. 
Marenthrix heard the people arrive and heard one of them being betrayed and killed, before a goat-legged figure appeared in the doorway, Verion. Marenthrix was persuaded to let Verion pass, so that he might have the siege-stone and rain destruction on Thrantium, which pleased the beaten and vengeful dragon. Marenthrix realised that in letting Verion pass, he was not breaking his pact, as the satyr was not of this world.
Then later, the bonk squad arrived on the shores of Siren's Island. Having passed through the cave and found Big Chungus' dead body, they entered and fought the crippled and cruel Marenthrix, thus ending his tyrannous life.
