NouBordeaux Settlement in Ethnis | World Anvil

NouBordeaux

NouBordeaux is the homeworld of the Manne-Kyn. It is a rich world with lots of water and advanced Terraformation.

Order is maintained by the Hospitaliers who ensure that only Manne-Kyn are allowed in certain cities and districts—a holdover from the days when the Manne-Kyn exiled all other Sophont from the major cities.

History

Settlement

NouBordeaux was one of the first worlds settled by the Syndicate in a joint contract between the Jhoutaioan nation of Cortica and the Edenic nation of Nouvelle-France. At that time, its population was primarily Helyk and FirstHeart. Both groups represented people who were emigrating from their banner during the Bannercasting, and so needed a world to move to.

The Lacuna

Like every other world, NouBordeaux was abandoned by the Melancholic Lacuna and left to its own devices. Due to their well-established footing on a well-terraforme world, NouBordeaux's people saw only a few speedbumps, most of them caused by the strain and stress of suddenly being cut off from the rest of the universe.

Making the Manne-Kyn

One of the major issues on NouBordeaux was that, since terraformation was being done via floating atmospherancy towers magic was constantly in flux on the world. This resulted in many Auric Echos building up into Sanity storms, often faster than people could manage.

To combat this, the government of NouBordeaux created the Manne-Kyn. At first this was a minor operation of quasi-braindead drones who wandered the streets to clean of the auric echoes, but they had issues securing funding to contonie the project and expanded it out to consumer appeal.

In order to prevent the Manne-Kyn from seeming uncanny, they made them living and Sophontic—they attempted to suppress their minds, but a sloppy job by untrained scientists lead to the worst possible outcome for the government: uprising.

The Uprising

Despite their diminutive stature and psychological locks, the Manne-Kyn were able to overthrow society from within. They took over the major cities during a bloody revolution, and enstated one of their own, Marae du Nort, as La reine of the world. She exiled all non-Manne-Kyn rom the major cities, under penalty of execution.

Time marched on.

The Federation

When Perduro rediscovered the Index to NouBordeaux, the two countries quickly formed a trade bond and banded together for protection against anyone else who may try to reconnect. This became the first bond of the Federation, and the duet quickly grew to a Trio as Perduro rediscovered the Retic-to-Mothallah index as well.

The Reclamation

By the time the Lacuna ended, the trio had become so powerful, and had so rebuilt their worlds, that they had the footing and the strength to vie against the Banners, and so began to expand and explore the worlds as well. It was their rediscovery of the Retic-to-Andromeda index which kicked off the Reclamation.
