Amederic

Amederic1 is the general term for the language and its numerous dialects spoken by the Ameders of northern Dragonía.

Writing System

Written Amederic uses a syllabary of oval (in some places circular) symbols, each representing a certain concept. Some symbols' meaning is fairly easy to figure out while others are more abstract. Compounds are written by connecting symbols with short lines (usually two). Tnalú-naa, the tailors' caste, is thus written using the words for 'cloth' and 'caste'.

Geographical Distribution

Amederic is primarily spoken in the Ameder city-states along the coast of Ahix Sea and the colonies along the coast between Ela'k Forest and Kanix Forest, with Amederic-speaking communities found in the easternmost kingdoms of Mörkels along the northern coast of Narra'tonei Sea.

Vocabulary

The majority of Amederic vocabulary is derived from its parent language, Útelic, with notable influence from the Mörkelic languages in the eastern city-states. The meaning of certain Útelic-derived words has changed, reflecting the significantly different environment and culture of its speakers.
