he patriach of the Avanís Pantheon and father of Death, the Green Knight is the protector of the Cycle and the natural order of Daënfel.   Since Avlar's ascension, he is locked in constant battle with the God-King in vengeance for his daughter's death and the desecration of The Gods Willow, which occurred during Avlar's conquest.   The Green Knight is represented by a cloaked and greying bearded figure, wreathed in armour of vines and ivy, wielding a huge two-handed axe encrusted with runes. The scripture on his great axe is said to document the names of each of the beings that fought alongside him and his companions against the Titan long ago.   In the Cycle, the Patriarch's purpose is to ensure that no soul may be swept from the Life Stream before it reaches the Arbiter. It is his power that ensures that the use of necromancy is limited, and cannot interact with an unwilling soul.   The Green Knight is the patron deity of The Dawning Empire, with the first of the Davistan line being chosen directly by the Green Knight to lead the people of man to a new dawn.   Knightly orders revere The Green Knight, as his followers tend to be the warriors and chivalrous protectors of the Empire. The Knights of the Eclipse offer their prayers to many Gods, however they do particularly favour the Green Knight as a bastion for order and defender of innocent souls from the more nefarious powers of this world.   People worship the Green Knight for strength; to lash out against adversity like poison ivy, or for the foundational strength offered by a great oak tree. Common events that revere the Patriach are hunts, battle, farewelling a fallen comrade, or in the knightly endeavours of the world.   His clergy form the primary benefactors of The Everglow Tourney, and it is in his image that the games are held.   The isle of Ban Elsir on Lake Lumelor hold the remains of The Gods Willow, his sacred temple and primary place of worship. It is here that many of the religious leaders of each deity meet to talk, outside the capital of Hope.
