Guide to Afflicted Races
Introduction
At Crossroads, we have several Fabled races that fall under the category of Afflicted: Werewolf, True Vampire, Hag, and Hexblood. These races have unique mechanics involved in either their creation, or the creation of Lessers beneath them.
- Alpha Werewolves can create Lesser Werewolves
- True Vampires can create Fledgelings
- Hags can create Hexbloods
- Hags can turn Hexbloods into other Hags
Creating a Lesser
‒ A how-to guide for Afflicted Races
You have gotten to the point where you are wanting to create your first lesser, whether it be a lesser Werewolf, a Vampire Fledgeling or a Hexblood, but you’re unsure of how to go about it or what to do. In order to help in the process of what needs to be done both OOCly and through your RP, the team have prepared this guide, to expedite the process.OOC Expectations and Process
The Fabled Holder. So, you as the fabled holder have reached a point where you feel you are ready to convert another player to your lesser. In your fabled ticket, you should post your intention to do so, alongside any leadup RP between you and this player, that you have felt has been paramount to the relationship built, where the next logical step, would be turning. This is where you can also vouch for the player, letting the team know that they have shown play to lift behaviour, and you feel they would be a great representation of the slot. Once you have done so, and the team has seen such, the other party should open a rare/fabled whitelist ticket. The possible Lesser. Once the above has been completed by the fabled holder, the possible lesser, would open a rare/fabled whitelist ticket. They would complete the whitelisting form as normal for any whitelist with their current character’s whitelist information, and the backstory that was originally submitted and accepted for said character.
They can then add an addition to the backstory, detailing their time in the current setting, and the time spent with the fabled holder, that has led to this path. Some additional questions will be provided, which should be answered from the perspective of your character, as said Lesser race. The team will then review this application, before accepting or denying such.
RP Expectations between the fabled, and potential lesser
A comprehensive experience. The RP shown between the fabled and potential lesser, should include multiple scenes of perhaps, manipulation, coercion, secretive spying missions. Anything really, that shows time spent has led this direction, anyway the lesser has helped the sire in achieving their goals. Helping the fabled holder to achieve any of their fabled race expectations outlined on the Fabled Race Expectations page.
Actionable goals, motivations, or RP hooks given: Perhaps the sire has overarching goals, that the lesser has helped them to achieve, whether knowingly or not, this would be great to see. In turn, seeing the lesser provide their own goals to the fabled, and the fabled helping or manipulating them into thinking their goals align, would also be great to see.
Evidence of research into the race’s lore: Show us in your RP that you’ve provided your lesser with a good, lore accurate portrayal of your fabled race and, have perhaps even taught them some things, in preparation for what is to come. Completing research into the race, especially knowing beyond the basics. Showing knowledge of obscure bits of lore on the race is great to see. We want to see elements of the race’s lore. If you need help researching something for a race, you are welcome to open a lore inquiry ticket.
Play to lift: We want to see a mentality of helping other players collaborate for the best story, even if that means your character would ‘lose’ a conflict. Players who have been helpful to the community at large are good to see. This is especially important in rare or fabled races.
Commitment: We want to see these characters stick around for a decent amount of time. They do not have to be your forever character, and having some that rotate out of the slot after a while so other players can try their hand is good, but frequent rerolling or rolling out of a limited slot very soon after being accepted is not what we want to see.
How to turn a Lesser
‒ And what the RP should involve
If you have gotten this far, then Congratulations, you have been accepted to become your fabled holder’s lesser. Now that you have been accepted, you and the fabled holder should conduct the one of the following ‘turning’ RP’s:Vampire Fledgeling
The intended Fledgeling should be drained of their blood, in its entirety by the True vampire, until they are no longer alive. Once completed, the victim’s body should be buried in the ground, only to rise as a Fledgeling. The time elapsed, is up to the parties involved, but should be something reminiscent of 24 hours having passed, which can be hand waived where necessary.
Lesser Werewolf
As a disease, lycanthropy is contracted through open wounds being exposed to the blood, saliva, or other secretions of a true lycanthrope or another infected. On Crossroads, this takes the form of the Alpha Werewolf mauling the intended lesser, allowing the disease/infection to pass to the accepted lesser. This can take the form of a fight, or a surprise mauling/encounter, depending on the parties involved consent/preferences.The time elapsed, is up to the parties involved, but should be something reminiscent of 24 hours having passed, which can be hand waived where necessary.
Hexblood
As a curse inflicted by a hag, this can take the form of a ritual conducted by the hag. Hexbloods are individuals infused with eldritch magic, fey energy, or mysterious witchcraft. Some who enter into bargains with hags gain what they seek but eventually find themselves transformed. Such a ritual and what it involves can be completed at the Hag’s discretion, but should be RPed as a rather exhaustible use of their power. The time elapsed, is up to the parties involved, but should be something reminiscent of 24 hours having passed, which can be hand waived where necessary.
