The Terra Ring

CHG: Bro we should keep our duplication tech secret.

CHG: *builds a ring of planets around the sun, invents a new naming system that shows that more rings of planets will be made, and then makes more rings of planets without actually mining anything.*

CHG civilians: Bruh everyone knows you got some way of getting that matter outta nowhere how you doing it pulling worlds from alternate realities? Being in kahoots with some kinda space god?

CHG: *enters crab stance* you'll never know.

Anyhow the Terra or Earth ring is a ring of habitable planets located within the orbit that the Earth goes in around the sun, even following the same orbit. These were the newer ones with matter duplication + planet building and so they aren't actually the best but they have a tonne of symbolic value for being both the first duplicated matter planets and so close to Earth. They're also where much of the population is because it's also got the most terraformed worlds and, of course, is only a short distance from the cradle of humanity.

Purpose / Function

Living space and general productivity. Keeping as many planets together as possible also makes them a lot easier to defend, even if the cost of losing each system is far higher.

Alterations

Lots of planets have been added over time and lots of things have been built on those planets. The Terra Ring is also loaded with space stations, bio-spheres (like a space station but if it was so large it had to be built as a sphere and serves more for living space than trade or productivity. Often used as prisons), war stations (t'is like a space station but nobody's allowed to do jack diddly squat except the military... they also tend to be covered in guns) and the like. Artificial moons are being made as a recent addition because people don't like their North Poles turning into their Equators and constant uncertainty with tides while gravity nets fill in that role for planets yet to acquire moons.

Architecture

Many of the wealthier within the Terra Ring (there are those beyond it who do this as well but it's much more of a thing here for a similar reason to there being almost no Aztec re-enactors in the UK when Saxon/Viking/Medieval/general parts of UK history ones are all over the place) like to emulate their ancestors by making lots of their stuff, including their homes and themselves, look like they're from parts of humanity's pre-space past. Aside from the presence of this actually-kinda-sad-when-you-think-real-deep-about-it-especially-when-there's-peeps-seriously-saying-things-were-better-back-then-yeah-sure-Timothy-I-guess-not-even-living-to-a-hundred-must've-been-so-great-especially-when-paired-with-starting-to-get-old-in-your-frickin'-30s-and-40s-rather-than-your-60s activity, most of it is pretty normal in future terms. Ground space is conserved with ridiculously tall buildings, the infrastructure is bonkers, the safety's oddly decent for a militaristic state but then again the CHG is basically pretending in this regard thanks to all my re-working of all the ways they do things, there's very little exterior decoration but those who have cash to spare (*coughs* hardly anyone *coughs*) will do all sorts of things to jazz up their interiors.

History

Look I'm not gonna go into the rabbit hole that is the history of the Terra Ri-

So okay it started with Jeff the insanely intelligent AI inventing tonnes of new technologies for the CHG such as Matter Duplication with Exotic Matter and Time Compression/Bending buuut it really gets jazzy with the The Infinity Base where these and other secret technologies are used to create entire planets. These planets are then put into orbit in their respective "life rings" around their star and then encompassed by a Terraforming Flower (I wanted it to be called a Terraforming Demogorgan-Face but apparently that has copyright and marketability issues) which, weirdly enough, terraforms the planet but also does so very screwily to get it done fast and this is by messing with the AIs of Planet Loki 's computer systems to make it a priority for linking up with so that it can be terraformed and then bombarded with life and then the portals close and the Terraforming Flower un-Loki's it and then you've got yerself a planet people can inhabit.

Any brain cells left? Brilliant because the Terra Ring has been subject to all sorts of lunacy thanks to it being the habitation part of what is basically the heart of the CHG with the highest population, most economic importance, a position as the safest (at least from aliens) part of the CHG, the place where almost all the political stuff happens AND tonnes of symbolic importance:

Jeff tried to take over the system so that he could use its position to capture the rest of the CHG.

The LIR has attempted to destroy it 17 times, not including ones before there were 5 planets in the ring.

80% of its population was killed in the Great Terrorist War, which was started by the The Great Terrorist Organisation

The The New Old One Empire actually managed to get some of their forces in there and countless lives were only saved because of a Sagwalli being told by the Sagwalli Templar that if he blew himself up - along with the Old One fleet - that he'd go to their murder-loving heaven.

In 2663 the Terra Ring was the first to have multiple portals within itself. Noice.

And that's just if we don't include the stuff that occurred where the ring of planets is before it existed.
