The Village of Wreath

Located northeast of the capital city, the village of Wreath is a mid-sized farming community nestled on the rolling hills below the southern tip of the Cairnheels mountain range. To the east lies the Wreathwood, an old, sleepy forest where one can generally find good game year round. The road back to the capital as well as the kingdom's beltway are the main highways that leave the village, but smaller private roads and paths can be found along those roads as well.   Wreathfolk do not generally live wealthy lifestyles, nor are they anywhere near impoverished. As long as the crops are strong, the economy is in a state of balance. Cold snaps and long droughts are generally the biggest concerns among the locals, but even then, the Bluevein helps mitigate the lack of precipitation during the drier portions of the year. No, what really concern the Wreathfolk are the supernatural bubbles that occasionally manifest. Pockets of other realms that flit into and out of existence, sometimes leaving behind something nasty. It may simply cause some of the crops to die, or worse, some of the people to die... Hopefully though, they might be lucky and a spirit of nature or compassion might manifest instead, it's so hard to tell what may happen these days...

Demographics

The majority of inhabitants are mostly human, though there is a strong minority of halflings, finally a handful of Dwarves and Half orcs. There are a few families comprised of more exotic races, but they are quite limited. Anything beyond this is mostly attributed to the ocasional guard patrol, merchants, or visitors from outside the village.

Government

A mayor is elected from the general populace, though he/she may be appointed by the ruling Lord in times of great urgency. Gender is supposedly irrelevant, but more males have been elected than females. Naturally, experience is preferred.   There is a 1% annual property tax involving a tax collector that goes to each household with the mayor to appraise the value of total property from which taxes are derived. It particularly harsh times, this tax may even be as high as 3%, though it is rare.

Defences

The Bluevein River forms a natural barrier coming in from the road, as a bridge is needed to access the town from the main entrance. The town's able-bodied men are all required to train in basic combat twice a year by a patrolling member of the King's Guard in charge of bolstering local defenses. Sometimes, this only happens once a year due to the King's Guards other duties, though this particular task is shared among the members of that elite group.

Industry & Trade

Besides the normally plentiful grain harvest, the town also produces livestock, leathers, grain and cider alcohols, and flaxen textiles. Naturally, local leatherworkers, blacksmiths, carpenters, cobblers and more form significant links to local trade.   In terms of raw farming land, between the 3 big farms alone total up to 180 acres, something near 60 acres each.

Infrastructure

Being a mostly agricultural town, much of the buildings service some aspect of farm life. The surrounding fields are often put into rotation and the 3 largest farms in town produce wheat, barley, and rye. The town has some limited lumber harvesting, although the eastern northeastern forests are rarely logged for large portions of the year.

Assets

The average villager may have personal wealth anywhere between about 70g-100g at any given time of the year. Most of their wealth lies in their property and their foodstuffs. The occasional bauble or trophy may inflate the value somewhat, but you tend to do well if you own more land.

Architecture

Wood is the main material used in construction, though some stone is used sporadically throughout the town. They have mostly modest houses, rarely much more than 700-800 square feet. Most of the huts have thatched roofs but some have some rudimentary shingling.

Geography

The village lies in a small valley bordered by the Bluevein River. Surrounded by the Wreathwood, the scenery in the fall is particularly breathtaking as the forest turns into a kaleidoscope of reds, oranges, and yellows.

Natural Resources

A substantial amount of arable land as well as land suitable for raising livestock. The timber from the Wreathwood nearby is occasionally used for building new structures or general kindling. The Bluevein river provides fish, water for drinking and irrigation, and hygiene further down river. There are a few wells about the town as well.
