The Wreathwood

The trees of the Wreathwood look strong and old. Deer and other forest game are fairly common the further one ventures into the woods, but so are bears, wolves, and other more dangerous creatures. Generally speaking though, most of the villagers tend to return home by nightfall and only a few remain in the forest much later than that. Still, if one strikes out for brief forays into the area the danger is quite minimal.   Recently, the occasional small herd of deer and other forest dwellers have ventured out into the wheat fields and across the town to reach the river and attempt to cross it. Cade the Miller even claims to have seen a bear carry its two cubs across the river, but he's been known to stretch the truth on more than one occasion.

Geography

The forest is quite sizeable, but mostly extends north and south of the Bluevein, hugging the north and eastern sides of The Village of Wreath. From it's southern boundaries at the banks the Bluevein, it stretches up to the Cairnheels and nearly to the eastern coast, giving way to a small stretch of grassy hills before the coast can be accessed.   The forest itself is slightly hilly, a feature more pronounced the further north one goes. It is rather dense, leading many to believe it's quite old. More seasoned woodsmen know better than to gauge a forests age by those metrics alone, but it's still a good conversation starter with travelers at the inns.   There is a particular section of the forest with many more smaller creatures, but it's a bit deeper than most lumberjacks are willing to venture simply to cut down a tree. The woodsmen stay away from it though, many believe it was once home to some sort of spirit and don't wish to bring misfortune back to the village with them. It's hard to say if it's just a story they tell children to keep them close to town or if there's anything more to it.

Fauna & Flora

Plantlife:

Red Oak, Birch, Elm, and Pine trees make the bulk of the forests great trees. Certain medicinal plants are also fairly common such as Elfleaf and Motmoss. Hunters and loggers always have keep an eye out for the pearlescent leaves of the Moonflower Tree, a rarity that is occasionally found throughout the Vardan forests with incredible properties.

Animals

Many of the common animals found throughout forests can be found here as well: Deer, wild boar, wolves, bears, and many of the smaller birds and mammals too. There were also sightings of owlbears droppings within the last few moons, as well as the unfortunate signs of an errant Bullette. Thankfully, no one has come across the scene of its meal, only the large holes in the ground signaling it's passing, so many are content to think it moved on.

Natural Resources

A great deal of lumber can be harvested from the forest as well as some honey from a few of the beehives in the area. Leather and fur from hunted animals provide excellent practical and commercial gains for any who are capable enough to do so.
