Spirit Wood

Stories around the world tell of certain trees more resilient, stronger, or otherwise superior to others of their kind. Some of them make for harder woods, others are more flexible than their siblings, but lose none of the strength to their extreme pliability. Specific cases vary and some of the effects are more pronounced, but woodworkers the world over are always hoping to work with this wondrous material.

Properties

Material Characteristics

They are often identified by the unique coloration of their sap:     Red - The wood is typically much stronger and resists bending or breaking while being just as dense as regular wood, prized by many.   Blue - Spiritwood Trees producing this color sap are also resilient to breaking, but more from a pronounced ability to bend further than would otherwise be normal for any other tree of the same variety. They are often the only things standing if a powerful windstorm knocks other trees down in the area.     Green - This curious sap indicates that the tree is a conduit for magical energies, usually those of nature, but can often be used as the casing for wands, staves, and other magical implements. Even the sawdust is collected and can be put to use as incense for censers and other rituals to great effect.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Spiritwood trees are rarely every encountered near civilization with but a few exceptions. Thanks to their exclusivity, their prices are generally quite high. Depending on how much the buyer is in need, the seller may even coax a greater sum.   Each variety of Spiritwood has its known uses, though experimentation is not uncommon. If a unique purpose is given to any of the known varieties, the trade secrets are more valuable than the wood itself. When a truly wondrous application for spiritwood is discovered, it can greatly shake the market, though new innovations have been rare in the past decades.

Storage

Generally speaking, they are still wood. As such, it is wise to store them in indoors in a cool, dry area where limited humidity is present. Additionally, pests are particularly troublesome if they get into the wood, as they grow strong from eating the mystically imbued wood.
