The Lower Green
The Lower Green is generally used as the town's market square. Its proximity to the river truly accentuates the freshness of the fish sold there every morning. While some stalls and semi-permanent structures were damaged or simply swept away by the 50-year storm that happened 5 years ago, its wide expanse allowed for easy cleanup, much to the relief of the villagers residing near it.
Purpose / Function
Contrary to the Upper Green, this area mostly serves as the general marketplace for the town. If you need produce, livestock, candles, and more, you come here first. On special occasions though, this area doubles as a secondary fairground, though many of the village's citizens insist on reserving it for a handful of festivals, much to the youth's chagrin. In times of great need, the both the Upper and Lower Green has been used as a rally point for head-counting mothers and fathers of families after disasters like fires, floods, and monster attacks.
Alterations
The Lower Green has a well at its center for much the same reasons as the Upper: daily use, and fire suppression. Beyond this, the only significant difference is its merchant stalls.
Architecture
This particular village green is normally under use by the villagers as a market space. Many stalls are lined up at the edges of the green with a large space between where people can chat and walk about as they do their daily tasks and purchases.
History
This particular green was built after the town's population exceeded 600 after the official census. Its location was decided due to its proximity to the main bridge and to the small pier down by the riverside for the easy transport of goods downstream. It helped that the pier and the Lower Green were planned around the same time.
