Personal history
Lending a helping hand to your neighbor does a lot to improve your political standing, at least this much is true for the current mayor of Wreath, Gabriel Woodsworth. After a particularly strong storm five years ago, over half of the town was destroyed, particularly those areas near the riverbank. Having just moved to Wreath from the capital, Varderal with his wife Brenna Woodsworth, they also found their home washed away. Not only that, but they were both rather new parents at the time. Thankfully no harm came to their children Roy and Leena. After building a crib for his children and a small shack near the Dawson Farm he proceeded to help rebuild the village.
That period was particularly difficult for his relationship with Bera, who claimed he spent more time away from his family than with them. Gabriel can be... hard headed. His desire to help those in need butt heads with his attention with his family, that much is true. However, he could not overlook that he had the precisely the skills needed to remedy the situation. After promising to return an hour before sunset every night, Edith's apprehension lessened considerably. "What kind of father would you be if you only saw your children's faces by candlelight?"
The time spent working around town was well-spent as he came to understand more of the Wreathfolks concerns, but it hardly stopped there. Occasionally he and his wife were invited to the newly completed homes from grateful townsfolk. They heard their fears, but also their hopes and desires. They shared toasts at every finished home and soon Gabriel's name was spoken in the same breath as the words "respectable," "helpful," "generous," and finally "dependable."
The following year Gabriel ran for mayor and won a landslide victory. A few voices did protest as his status as an outsider, but they were quickly stifled by his deeds in the reconstruction of Wreath.
