Session 1 - Small Signs
General Summary
It's the end of Harvestmere, the fields are clear of harvest and the leaves have turned. Answering the requests for help concerning additional Rift TIdes and other mysterious phenomena a group of adventurers stop into town. Berthold, Jayr, and Kira are greeted by a Torst Quakestone, an old military friend of Jayr's, and the current constable of Wreath. He informed them that the Mayor and town cleric were out to Redbridge investigating the lack of responses to their issues from the capital.
Soon afterwards, Torst took them to the house of a prominent farmer Tom Corwyn, where they met his children: two daughters, Perryrill (halfling) and Callindy (goliath), and a son, Galen Corwin (halfling). They also met a tiefling, Kallista, who had been accidentally summoned by Perryrill from one of the lower planes.
Tom told them that a family of farmhands down the road towards the forest had been hearing strange noises come from the woods and suggested that the group talk to them. After a brief round of introductions on the way, Kallista and Moggie (Perry's familiar) felt chills emanating from the house as they approached. Kira also noticed that there were patches of permafrost on the ground where wheat had died near the house. The Realm Dial given to them by an excitable Galen began reacting in Berthold's hand with the symbol of the Abyss, followed by an intense cold sensation coming from it.
A flash of light came from inside the house, and the group was uncertain of what to do for a few moments. After those moments of deliberation passed, something crashed out the window and they began running to the forest, pursued by a creature that resembled a withered husk of a pale, starved man. Kira picked Perry up and ran with her towards the forest, falling behind the rest of the group who managed to get ahead. The creature tripped over some farming implements and was slowed, but Perry cast grease to hamper it further. The group managed to get off a few attacks once under the cover of the trees, and managed to kill it soon afterwards.
Investigating the creature found no material goods, but a strange silvery chalky substance on it, as if it was once liquid that had dried. Kira and Berthold felt strange pangs of hunger while looking at the corpse, but also discovered that its corpse was not turning into smoke or darkness like it should have from being killed on the prime material plane. A good many Sacred Flames later, the corpse was reduced to ashes. Returning to the house, they found a girl, whom they named Klara because the letter "K".
They returned to the Corwyn Farm to find Torst and Mayor Gabriel waiting there. Torst when to check on the house and lost his lunch, the Mayor had a solemn look on his face.
