Realmtide
Some of the most impressive yet dangerous results of The Shatter are the many planar incursions that have taken place since that fateful event. They've come to be known under many different names over the whole of Boros, but the continent of Erandor has coined the most common name as the Realmtides. At times they appear to have no trigger whatsoever, but over the years the people of Boros have found some important clues to help prepare themselves for a coming Realmtide:
- The development of Realmdials in the last fifty years has massively improved the ability to detect when an incursion may occur.
- Over the years, certain locations have been found to be more or less susceptible to Realmtides. These are locations where certain conditions are met that attract the forces of a particular plane.
- Realmtides are capable of being contained or otherwise stunted or mitigated, sometimes even appeased. This is typically done by some sort of ritual. Blessings on graveyards are the first most people know world-wide.
Manifestation
The experience of undergoing a Realmtide can vary dramatically. Generally, the plane or dimension in question suffuses the prime material plane with its essence. The Black Tide of Varderal was among the first, and that saw a large Shadowfell influence raise the dead from the city's cemetary. Not only that, but some advanced forms of undead burst from the ground and the shadows all along the affected area, nearly a fourth of the city. The loss of life was massive, and though it managed to be contained, it still took a week, and the sun was blocked for 3 days from the moment it began. These are among the many effects a Realmtide can produce.
Localization
Worldwide - Certain pockets are well-known and others have yet to be discovered. What is certain is that these Realmtides can happen at any moment, and seemingly, at any location.
