Land of the Lost: Session 11 Report
General Summary
The party started off the day by bathing in the river. Continuing with previous bathing trends, shenanigans ensued and Jack may have gotten a concussion (totally wasn't Perry's fault).
Following this, the party informed the guards accompanying them that they wanted to take Cas Tryn up on her offer to escort her to and from Sanctum in exchange for a map of the caverns and additional adventuring supplies. Cas visited them later in the morning to work out the details and they agreed to set out at first light the following day.
In the mean time, the party elected to go down to the main gate and help with reinforcing the walls in exchange for bandagaes as they always seemed to be running out of them. Ahgythah met with the warriors most skilled in treating wounds and shared her knowledge. While she was not allowed to utilize magic, she was able to impart some new knowledge to them.
The following morning, the party set out for the Lost Labyrinth with Cas Twyn, six warriors, four seekers, and two tacticians. The snow melt had filled the valley significantly since their last trip through the region, but they were still able to navigate it without much issue, reaching the entrance to the Labyrinth by nightfall.[/p
During Perry's watch, he detected faint vibrations emanating from outside the Labyrinth's entrance. He took a stick from the fire and threw it as far as he could towards the origin. While this did not reveal anything, it did seem to deter whatever had been stalking them.
The following morning, they entered into the largest chamber of the Lost Labyrinth. To their surprise, the main column was still intact, though it did look like some of the structures and parts of the ceiling of the city had collapsed. The area also seemed devoid of life and the water that flooded the lower parts of the city had vanished. Cautious but undeterred, they continued on.
Nightfall came without incident and they set up camp within the ruins of a structure where the surrounding earth had eroded away into the now dry riverbed and was accessible only by two narrow foot bridges. Ahgythah lit the blue flare Rasat had given her in hopes that he would spot it in the darkness and make contact with them.
As the night wore on, each watch reported the sounds of creatures off in the distance. The third and final watch could feel them closing in, so they prepared to fight, unsure of what was stalking them. In unison, a swarm of Pincers poured over the walls and up the embankment surroundings the structure. Within seconds, several of the Dryn either fell back or collapsed as the Sect bit into them. Even the party struggled initially, taking multiple wounds in rapid succession. However, they were able to rally and slew their attackers, but not before taking many substantial injuries. It was a combination of sheer luck and the Ahgythah's skilled magical healing that prevented any loss of life, though most of the Dryn and even some of the party members were in no shape for another fight. It was clear that the Dryn, while well-equipped and thoroughly trained, had not seen real combat before and were woefully unprepared.
Fortunately, Rasat landed atop the wall of their structure. Having spotted the flare from Sanctum, he was eager to learn what had brought the party back into the Labyrinth and why they had brought a company of Dryn with them.
After explaining their reason for return, the party questioned Rasat and why the pillar still stood and what had transpired since their last encounter. He informed them that they had detonated an explosive within the pillar as planned, but it had done little to weaken it. However, the blast did open up cracks within the foundation of the city, draining all the water and disturbing Sect nests deeper in the earth. It had also revealed that there were numerous levels beneath the pillar. The Hermit had descended into these levels shortly after their discovery and had not been seen since.
The party was unsure of what to do with this information, but they knew they needed to get Cas Twyn and her warriors to Sanctum. There, they could rest, recovery from their wounds, and plan their next move.
The party continued on their way to Sanctum and were met halfway by a group of warriors from Sanctum that would escort them the rest of the way. Once safe within Sanctum's walls, the Dryn and the party breathed a sigh of relief and promptly retired to rest and heal.
As they drifted off to sleep, Athena saw a vision in which the voice of the Hermit echoed in her mind, flashing images of the pillar and many of the dark corridors hidden beneath it. The final image was that of a chamber with a deep, seemingly bottomless pit at its center. The Hermits emotions and thoughts were clear: This hold needed to be sealed, even if it meant bringing the whole Labyrinth down upon it. Athena had not spent much time with the Hermit, but she knew that fear was not a feeling he was familiar with, but whatever he believed to be at the bottom of that pit scared him.
