Land of the Lost: Session 2 Report
General Summary
The party began their journey to the foot of the Lost Mountains on the 1st day of First Summer, 255 TTE. Enough adventurers have used this path to the point where it's essentially an established road. They are accompanied by a mixed group of adventurers, delvers, explorers, and mercenaries.
On the second day, the party passed a two individuals trying to get a broken wagon out of the mud. The party choose to let them be, but some of the other travelers chose to stop and help.
That night, Perry saw someone watching their camp. He called out a challenge, but the individual disappeared into the darkness. The party decided to stay on their guard until they figured out who was spying on them.
The following day, the party came across a destroyed village now being used as a rest stop for travelers to the mountain. None of the original inhabitants of the town have remained and a handful of merchants and venders have set up shop in the ruins. Some investigation reveals that the town was destroyed just a few months ago and that whomever destroyed it used both martial and magical means. The party also learned that the two travelers with the broken wagon were the last of the original inhabitants of the village and may have been able to shed more light on what happened there.
Still aware that they were being pursued, the party found a destroyed building that had a trapdoor cellar beneath it. Most of the supplies stored in it had gone bad, but it served as a place to stay the night safely, which proves to have been a wise decision as they are awoken during the night by several individuals searching through the destroyed building. Thankfully, they did not notice the door to the cellar. The following morning, the party rejoined the group and continued their journey.
The following night, the party is attacked by three of their fellow travelers that seem to be after Jack's decanter. The assailants are quickly dealt with, but the party is unable to identify them or whom they were sent by. The other travelers chose to get up early and put some distance between them and the party as they seem to draw unwanted attention.
The next couple days were uneventful as the party continued to follow the path as it leads up through the foothills of the Lost Mountains. The temperature began to drop and snow covered the ground as they continue to climb in elevation. Some of the party members occasionally detect vibrations in the earth, though they don't know what might be causing it.
The party came across a passage through a cliff face guarded by a group of merchants and mercenaries. They charged a toll for using the passage and sell goods with significant mark-up, but didn't seem to mean any harm to the party who chose to stay the night there.
The party continued their journey the following day, coming to a lone tree with a grave beneath it. Perry and Serqet decided to dig up the grave to see if the corpse has any good equipment on it. It did, but Serqet contracted an unknown disease from the desecrated corpse.
Finally, the party reached the foot of the Lost Mountains and were faced with an icy cliff with a partially frozen waterfall beside it. The group the party was traveling with previously had already begun to climb, but it looked like they were struggling and several of them had been injured from falls.
Just as the party was about to begin their climb, an earthquake caused the cliff to crumble, killing several of the travelers and injuring many more. The party took a few injuries, but nothing serious.
The partially collapsed cliff revealed ancient structures within the mountain. Wanting to take time to tend to their wounds, the party climbed into the ancient tunnels and settled down for the night. This adventure was proving to be challenging and not in the ways they had expected. They would nee to be more cautious moving forward as it was clear that there was more going on along this road than they originally thought.
