Land of the Lost: Session 7 Report

General Summary

After spending a few days recovering from their wounds, the party prepares to continue their journey with Devyn, Hos'Tey, and J'Olt joining them. Before they head out, Rasat visits them and informs them this new portion of the Labyrinth is suspiciously void of life. He has not been able to figure out why, but warns the party to be careful. He also provides them an alchemical torch that they can light as a beacon to get his attention.

The party ventures out in the new section of the Lost Labyrinth. The increasing heat of First Blaze has resulted in large amounts of snow melt flowing into the city, overfilling its canals and flooding lower portions of the city. The party steers clear of this at it seems to have brought with it large aquatic and amphibious predators. The streets of the city are suspiciously devoid of life, instead littered with the corpses for numerous Deepfolk and Sect. Strangely, it seems as if some of the larger corpses have gotten up and walked away, all heading towards the central column of the city. The party ponders this mystery as they continue on their way, finding a mostly intact cellar to spend the night in. The following morning, the party sees the foot prints of a creature that lead from the water to the central column of the city. Further investigation reveals that it was heavily wounded as there is a significant amount of blood in its tracks.

The party decides to investigate the surrounding area for any danger and Perry encounters a mysterious creature hiding in the shadows. When he approaches, it flashes brightly and dashes off, startling Perry to the point that he shouted in surprise. When the rest of the party comes to his aid, he described the encounter and Ahgythah recognizes the creatures as a Mimic, advising the party to be very careful about what they touch as Mimics can take the form of anything and have a toxic that makes its prey more susceptible to being led into a cave or alley where it can strike and feed.

Continuing on their way, Perry runs ahead and comes across a very pretty rock. Perry picks it up and is injected with the toxin from the Mimic. Under the influence of its toxin, it follows the creature as it rolls into an alley and then attacks Perry. Perry is able to break free of its grasp without taking injury and wounds it, forcing it to flee. Ahgythah knows that the toxic's effects will likely last for at least two hours, so the party finds another partially-intact structure to take up residence in.

While waiting for Perry to recover, the party detects winged Sect flying over the city, seemingly looking for them. With this in mind, they take care to try and go unnoticed by these scouts as they continue their travel.

As night falls, the party does their best to find another suitable place to rest, but are only able to find a building with a partial roof to hide under. The knight passes without incident, but the moment sunlight reaches into the Labyrinth, the party is attacked by a dozen Sect. The party is able to repel them, but not without Hos'Tey being several wounded.

After most of the Sect have been slain, the remainder turn and run, but they don't make it far as a mysterious figure kills them with Frostfire Magic. The party is initially distrustful of this figure, but it does not attack them. Instead, it reads the minds of all but Jack (he was able to guard his mind against it). The figure then magically treats the wounds of Hos'Tey, demonstrating that it does not wish the party any harm. Through a combination of audible noises and magical communication, it tells the party that it is a guardian of the Labyrinth, keeping the monsters being created in it from escaping out into the world. It believes that the Sect that have made a home in the central column of the city have found a way to revive fallen creatures to prolong their lives and be used as a renewable food source for the Sect. These "Husks" are sometimes more than just mindless zombies and became a formidable threat to all other forms of life. The figure has taken up residence at the main gate of the city, destroying these creatures before they can escape the Labyrinth. In exchange for the party's help in defeating the Husks and the Sect creating them, the figure agrees to give each of them a gift before they continue on their journey. The party agrees, believing that this could pose a threat to the Lost Hope.

Over the next two days, the party conducts scouting missions on the central column in order to find multiple means of ingress. They also reach out to Rasat using the alchemical torch, who coordinates with the Lost Hope in Sanctum to attack the central column simultaneously. Final preparations are made for a joint attack with the goal being to enter the central column as quickly as possible, denying their enemy the advantage of flight. What horrors await within the column is unknown, but the party is willing to face anything to make the Lost Labyrinth safer of the Lost Hope.
