Land of the Lost: Session 4 Report
General Summary
After surviving their first night in the Labyrinth, the party continues towards the tower that rises from the undercity floor and through a hole in the cavern roof on the 7th day of First Blaze, 255 TTE. It takes most of the day winding through the maze-like ruins, but they eventually arrive at the tower. Here, they meet the inhabitants of the Sanctum. This tower has served as a sanctuary for adventurers that lost their way in the Labyrinth in search of Pallium. Instead of carrying on with their journey or trying to find their way back, they instead chose to make a new life for themselves in this lost world.
They are initially distrusting of the party, but will allow them to rest and tend to their wounds within the Sanctum as long as they stay out of trouble. Their odd behaviors push the limits of the Sanctum’s hospitality, but they are allowed to stay and learn more about the Labyrinth.
The recent seismic activity has changed the layout of the Labyrinth. New rivers have formed as water flows in from the surrounding snow-caped mountains. This has resulted in many areas being flooded to the point of forming subterranean lakes and washing out the lower areas of the ruins. The inhabitants of Sanctum believe that this has also flooded caves and caverns beneath the city, pushing its inhabitants of Sect up into the Labyrinth. The inhabitants of Sanctum are preparing to defend themselves against the incoming hordes.
Additionally, the party learned that the Labyrinth used to be much more dangerous. A few months prior, an army of mysterious beings resembling lizard-kin came through searching for Pallium and agreed to help the inhabitants of Sanctum clear out some of the more significant threats in return for finding a way through the Labyrinth. Since then the Sanctum has existed in relative peace, but that is likely to change.
The following morning, the party agrees to prove their usefulness to the Sanctum in exchange for help finding a new way through the Labyrinth to Pallium. They begin by going to the Well: a structure that has partially collapsed into a reservoir of relatively clean water. It recently become the home of some larger creatures brought in the by flood waters and will make collecting water difficult. After a quick struggled with several amphibious creatures, they clear the Well of the major threats and bring them back to Sanctum for food. This act earned them the trust of the Sanctum and they agree to help the party on their journey as best they can.
The first obstacle to continuing towards Pallium is that the only remaining passage to the next section of the Labyrinth is being blocked by a colony of Pincers. With a group of ten adventurers from the Sanctum, the party goes to clear out the nest. After a tough fight, they are able to collapse the tunnel, cutting the hive in half and clearing out the half on their side of the tunnel. Only three of the ten from the Sanctum perished thanks to the efforts of the party. This earned them the appreciation of the Sanctum and have gained their full support in navigating the Labyrinth moving forward.
