Michael's Report, 2022-11-13
General Summary
After concluding our interrogation of Otto Steeltoes, we split up and went in two directions. Wash and Xev went to see William DeFino first, and then Lothel Bonerock, while Vathash went to the Archives.
William DeFino initially gave us three paintings, with three addresses for delivery, but reduced that to two paintings when the spy enchantments were mentioned. He acted very suspiciously regarding the paintings, and was later seen in a concerned dialogue with Misty and Frederic Firelight. However, he seemed to genuinely know nothing about the alleged thefts in the district.
Lothel Bonerock was fed a story about DeFino possibly being The Obsidian Viper. He showed off the paper that would be running the next day: "Wash and Friends Kill Centipedes"
At the Archives, Vathash's tried to research some legal options to deal with the changelings' property if we fake their death or fake driving them out, but I don't think the information I found will be helpful.
Djhim's spying in the Zonthosh hideout revealed the presence of Veriene Darkeyes, a pair of gazers, and some Kenku guards, but his presence was detected overnight and he had to leave. Also overnight, a zombie Beholder attacked the castle jail and escaped with Otto.
We left off after asking Istrid Horn about the underground gladiatorial fights. She denied any knowledge, but was obviously lying. When we left, Djhim overheard her telling her underlings to go alert Otto, and to follow us.

Xev offered to deliver more paintings and they were brought into the compound
Wash transformed into a rat, but backed out when seen by the guards.
DeFino came back out with three other paintings
Three delivery addresses in the Silverwine Ward
Xev told him about spying at the poorhouse
DeFino feigned ignorance
Suggested that DeFino himself should check into the magic on the three paintings he gave us
Convinced him to leave one with us
15 gp given to the party
Asked him about the thefts in the district
Says it's just a matter of underpaid, unreliable servants stealing from their employers
Insight 23: genuinely believes that these are unrelated to the paintings
Wash questioned him about their processes for hiring serving staff

Found that there is conspicuously nothing conspicuous in the area
Vathash perceived an alternate timeline where the players didn't discover the Intellect Devourer, and walked into an ambush set for them with the carrion crawlers
Sir Pounce watching the Firelight household overnight
Couldn't see where DeFino stashed the paintings
DeFino seems to have a very concerned conversation with the Firelights
Djhim's presence was detected overnight - he immediately was dismissed to return home

Back at The Friendly Ghost
9:30 AM, Melanie Fallenbranch in the Ivy Ward
Mentioned the carrion crawlers - she says she hasn't sensed any large presence of them, so there doesn't seem to be a nest
Conversation about the changelings
Mentioned another lead in the investigation - she seemed to want all changelings removed, was unphased about the prospect of another one unaffiliated with the main group

Got info from Savra Drake about the attack on the castle
It appears to have been a Zombie Beholder that broke out Otto Steelties
Burple was injured, but survived

Spoke to Corinthe
She says the past murders were all slit throats, not centipede attacks
All are drunks leaving the taverns late at night
No prior attacks were consistent with centipedes or carrion crawlers
Let her know that the serial killer is most likely a Drow
Spoke to Istrid Horn
She denies any knowledge of the underground fighting ring, but is clearly lying
When we left, Djhim overheard her telling someone to let Otto know we were snooping around, and to follow us.
