Malbrand Settlement in Ardre | World Anvil

Malbrand

Lord: Arvin, chief of Clan Maraigh
Patron Host: Ulthran, Host of Waters     Built on the ancient ruins of what was presumed to be a Revali settlement, Malbrand has been a place of foreboding even in times of legend. Some will claim it was once held by Clan Graunt before they joined in Greeyan's war against the Bastions and claimed Saolmoth from Clan Cereden. Most agree, though, that the cursed fortress was held by Clan Marnock since the Age of Dragons. The Marnocks were a secretive and terrifying people, yet they suddenly disappeared during the Witches War, when their ancient seat was taken by Aedein Ainros. Whatever happened to the Marnocks remains a mystery, but after Princess Aedein's defeat, Malbrand was taken by Clan Maraigh, claiming a timeless heritage with the Marnocks. A heritage that none dared to question.   Even today, little is known of Castle Malbrand. It rests along the western edge of the River Nightfall, deep in the Fiirwood, nominally ruling over all of the aged forest (though, practically speaking, only the western half of the Fiirwood can be said to be truly under their power). Despite holding so much land, only three clans are leasing vassals under Clan Maraigh. They are Clan Aadh, Clan Ruus, and Clan Siir. Each holds a reputation every bit as grisly as Clan Maraigh's.
