Greeyan Ainros - 6th Known Ruler of Revellia

Called the Cold King

King Greeyan Ainros

Reign: 701 RA - 712 RA
Wizards: Gwelryth the Spear, Anna Chains   Greeyan was known as a mirthless and merciless king, deliberate, and capable of great cruelty. He was openhanded with his supporters, but this generosity was ever overshadowed by the viciousness with which he punished even perceived disloyalty. When the western port of Dubraigh began shorting its taxes, he summoned Chief Ogmun of Wulk to answer for it. Ogmun blamed a particularly wealthy shipowner who had been shorting his own customs. Greeyan summoned the shipowner, who blamed his first captain. The captain was summoned, who blamed the shortage on two ships sunk by a winter storm. Greeyan had all three crucified to the Cliffs of Ardail during the next storm. Chiefs were terrified to see they could be punished as cruelly as peasants, merchants feared being held responsible for their underlings' failings, and peasants saw it was better for a captain to sink with his ship than to short his superiors. Greeyan was feared, but respected.   King Greeyan gave much cause to be feared, but there were myths that surrounded him as well. Chief among these was that he could command the werewolves of the Fiirwood from whence Clan Ainros haled, and that these had won him the throne from Corrik the Coward. One myth claimed that the sun rose when we awoke and set when we slept, that he had a monstrous brother named Gyldraev who ruled the castle in the night, that his wife Queen Brenn was a sorceress that had raised him from the dead. Many such tales of terror surrounded King Greeyan, though in truth they were no more horrifying that fact.   The eleven years of Greeyan's reign saw only one rebellion, which resulted in the utter destruction of Clan Marrow (and the continued rise of Clan Graunt). Greeyan shocked his people more than once with the horrors of his justice, but they were most surprised when he died of a mere winter fever in 712 RA. None could believe that the Cold King, so mighty and merciless, could be felled by a chill. Yet he died, and his first son Maitiu took the crown.
