Werewolves, called Garram

Garram in the Fiirwood by DALL-E
The Garram are said to be enormous wolves that live in the Fiirwood at the southern edge of Milos. Nowadays, they are more often called werewolves.   It is not entirely clear if the Garram truly exist. They are many times larger than an average wolf, with some tales claiming they have thumbs on their forepaws. Unlike true wolves, Garram are solitary creatures. Many a fool has suggested this is a good means of judging, on a dark night, whether you face a wolf and its nearby pack or a lone Garram: are there any other wolves nearby. Of course, Garram are said to be extremely intelligent too, in addition to their size and strength, so if one does fall under the attention of such a beast, being aware of one's misfortune offers little recourse.   Some myths say a man may become a Garram by slaying one and wearing its skin. After making some prayer to the moon, the slayer can then transform into a great wolf at night. Such magicians may feast on game all they like, but should they taste human flesh, they will remain a Garram forever.   Naturally, many assume these creatures to be the descendents of the Bura, the wolf-people of the ancient Aernigh. They are oft also associated with Nabas, the Wolf of Night, and considered unlucky creatures. Of course, a moment's thought reveals that any wolf, whether real or one of the supposed Garram, is dangerous and unlucky to come across.
