Aernigh

Meaning "the ancient people" in their own tongue, the Aernigh had no name for themselves, divided as they were into six different clans. It is often speculated the Aernigh were not even human. Evidence suggests they were (mostly) shorter than invasive contemporaries, and that they may have grown black claws instead of fingernails. Some say they had pointed ears, glowing eyes, and sharp fangs; that they were shapeshifters and sorcerers, blood-drinkers and cannibals, but there is no more proof of these legends than any other cultural points.   Everything that is (allegedly) known of the Aernigh stems from histories of the Orrish invaders that would eventually destroy them. As such, much of the ancient histories of these two people are conflated with one another   The Aernigh supposedly met their end near the southern extreme of Milos, when King Baarach of Beth defeated the last of Revali at the site of what is now the city of Revelback. Yet if the Aernigh ever existed, most of them were wont to haunt the deep forests, the darkest caverns, and poisonous bogs. It could be argued, and has been argued, that their death is no more certain than their life.
